Our Kind of Traitor

Just saw him in "Our Kind of Traitor'. I was very impressed, after watching him I could see why EON was interested in him taking over as Bond. Although I don't think it will happen given his age. That being said he would be ideal as a Bond baddie. Think ex MI6 agent gone rogue.

But honestly, I thought that Damian really shone in this role far better than in the role he played on Homeland and in Billions.

He was brilliant. This, 'Keane' and 'Wolf Hall' have placed him near the top of my crop of favourite actors working today.

He may be great in everything he does, but I realized from "Billions" how much of my interest in him (greater than in any working young-to-middle age actor) depends on the television series or film he is in. I can't watch "Billions." Putting him in a series with Paul Giamatti would be like putting Benedict Cumberbatch in a series with Jerry Seinfeld.

Oh, dear, no. Paul Giamatti is quintessentially American, as quintessentially American as Seinfeld. Even though Damian Lewis has succeeded so well in playing American working-class men (see Youtube SAG/AFTRA video), to me, his being British distracted me in "Billions" specifically because Giamatti is the real deal. Take Mandy Patinkin, whose demeanor is stand-offish and "Broadway" (i.e., sophisticated, maybe a bit snooty). I had no trouble forgetting Lewis' ethnicity in Homeland because he wasn't playing opposite another male lead whose American ethnicity is so indelible.

My question: why hasn't "The Silent Storm" ever opened in the U.S. or even been available on DVD? (I've tried to buy it on Ebay!) I wasn't even aware of "Our Kind of Traitor" until I came to this board yesterday. If it's as good as "Keane," I will find it a.s.a.p.
