Besides his deserving a nod, I can't help wishing he'd been at the Oscars for that role if Joan Rivers had been there asking her usual question "Who are you wearing?"

Absolutely. I've always thought Ted was unfairly snubbed by not not even getting a nomination for this. I rewatched this recently and I totally agree with you that second to Hopkins' his was my favorite performance in the film. The dance/make-up scene is kind of iconic, right? And he pulled it off so well.
