So she's not close friends with James Lafferty?

I heard Joy state somewhere that her & James actually weren't that close off-set while they were filming One Tree Hill. She was the oldest cast member & he was the youngest (almost a 5 year age gap) & they just did what needed to be done for the show and went their separate ways when they weren't filming. But I know both of them have said since the show has ended that they loved their time as Nathan & Haley, so at least they didn't hate each other (like Chad & Sophia) and they loved each other dearly, just not enough to hang-out together off-set. Lol!

It is hard to hang around with the same person for nearly 9 years, have kissing scenes and then not be close friends. I mean unless there was some friction, spending that much time together and having such a great chemistry on screen has to be through something no? Look at Friends cast. Because of their 10 year bond in the same series, they are good friends even off screen. If it was a movie or a season, it's a different matter. But so many years would build a friendship between them no?

I don't think so. In fact, I think it's easier and more believable when the couple aren't close off-screen. They can truly form their characters from a fictional standpoint. I would feel much more self-conscious filming love scenes with a real partner as that would hold real feelings that you would need to separate.

Being involved off-screen and pretending in on-screen is a different matter. What I meant was that by sharing the screen as often as they did for 9 years, they would build a bond between them no? It's like Mulder & Scully from X-Files or the Friends cast. After acting together for that long, a bond will build up. And Bethany did bond with her other cast mates. Why James was not in that list was what I wondered about.

Just because the end product of their work is an onscreen couple doesn't make them any different than co-workers in other environments. Would you class all of your co-workers as close friends? Of course you don't.
