She's not so bad.

She's self serious and humorless, or at least she comes off that way in public. So what? It's not like she's a terrible person. She doesn't kill children or steal money from retirees.

I certainly wouldn't avoid a movie because she's in it. She's a pretty good actress.

reply

She's a very good actor, at least she was in Room, for which she won an Academy Award. She's okay in Captain Marvel and Endgame, but comes across as a bit stiff and self-conscious at times.

I think she's more of a Hilary Swank type (a brilliant dramatic/character actor) than a more charismatic 'movie star' type like Julia Roberts or Jennifer Lawrence (i.e. actors who excel at playing basically versions of themselves).

reply

From so many of the interviews that I have seen her in she's funny, smart, very private and a bit of an introvert. The Craig Ferguson show is just an example of what she's like:

The majority of this outrage against Brie is just so misinformed and seems to be a by-product of the Internet Outrage Industry.

reply

The main criticism I hear about her is that she's unpopular with her costars. But she appears to get along quite well with Samuel L. Jackson, for example.

But if the rumour is true, and she does tend to be unpopular with other actors - is that seriously the worst thing? I mean, people know many actors who are proud divas/divos and they don't even blink twice at their reputations or boycott movies.

reply

Most of those types find their time in Hollywood affected by they're behavior. Ask Chevy Chase or Katherine Heigl if being difficult has hurt their careers.

reply

The thing is, I've never heard anyone say she was difficult, neither directors nor cast members.

And from what I've read, I've never considered Heigl's behaviour to be difficult. I feel like one comment she made was misconstrued by one director, who publicly shunned her and skewed the public's view of her, and that ruined her career. I've never heard another director speak ill of her - actually, she has been defended.

reply

Regardless, her reputation HAS hurt her career. As far as Brie is concerned, there is a lot of rumurs, which dont equal much, but she has a lot of fan critics who dont care for her and doesn't seem to be cohesive with a lot of her fellow cast members, hence the multiple awkward interviews. Her issue might not be being difficult for directors, but any difficulties are a negative when you are a short resume, middle of the road actress that could be easily replaced by a long line of other attractive women. Ask Terrence Howard just how easy it is.

reply

Brie still has a few projects lined up so I don’t think it affecting her all that much.

reply

Lined up doesn't usually mean a lot in Hollywood, but being a member of the Marvel team is like having a golden ticket, or so it would seem. I don't think she'd have a particularly long career if it weren't for Marvel, but she's in the door for sure. Time will tell, but it seems like most younger Hollywood actors and actresses seem to have much shorter career spans these days anyway.

reply

The entertainment marketplace has changed for almost everything where so much money is made so quickly by up and coming talent that they don't need to have exceptionally long careers any more. Baseball, basketball, Acting, YouTube influencers, you name it, easy fortunes made quickly with large bucks are there and not just for the Early Adopters. Staying power doesn't mean that much in almost any field because so much money flows so quickly. On top of that fans are fickle.

Brie Larson does have talent and a high degree of both conviction and people can question her integrity but she appears sincere in her pursuits. Studio systems used to be in vogue and Disney is bringing that back in a big way.

reply

Even before Brie Larson was A-list she always seems to find work in the business.

reply

Here I come. Hem (skip if keeping it real isn’t worth your time lol)...

She's self-righteous and humorless
Boy, you’ve been listening to too much of that anti-diversity, anti-feminist, anti-human decency, anti-reality propaganda coming from butthurt right wingers they got you seeing and hearing things that aren’t there. Either that or she does come off that way to you. Not enough smiling? Oh boy. We’re clearly seeing different things.

That said, if preaching what she does makes her self-righteous, then that makes her and so many other outspoken broad minded people in her industry (and frankly, around the whole country) self-righteous as well. And you know what? GOOD. Knowing the kind of people (toxic masculinity whincels and the Laura Ingrahams of the world) that become furious over what those like Brie stand for and speak out against makes me say... keep triggering these chuds, Brie! What’s more, I also say it’s a relief these “out of touch” famous faces like Brie don’t share the same beliefs as the Faux News crowd and won’t stay quiet to appease them; the only celeb voices that should be heard to according to these Brie haters are the real intolerant ones -- a reality show host demagogue is their king after all.

Funny though, remember how Brie’s fellow Avengers co-star, ScarJo, became a big target for said whincels for daring to speak truth to power and speak unkindly about the aforementioned demagogue? (She has, of course, been on this group’s shit list for several years now.) I do. And make no mistake about it... although Ms. Johansson is currently not on their radar they still go after her (“left wing fruitcake!”), especially when she has the audacity to say something that’s too ”SJW”. However, since Brie has been much more outspoken with her anti-social injustice views (hey, Chris Evans has been doing the same for years!) and has thrown real facts out there, misinformation-spreading whincels (“she hates white men!!”) were ‘course going to go after her like they go after any woman who ruthlessly tells it like it really is and stands up for the rights of others. Unsurprisingly, this whincel hate crowd is currently losing their minds over another public figure that doesn’t take ANY shit from their kind: AOC.

While U may not seem to hold a grudge against Brie like others that have been attempting to smear her do, obviously she rubs you the wrong way for a few similar reasons the scummy whincels have made her their biggest celeb target. But go on and believe (or feel the same way as) everything these legit bigots are saying about her. Poor thing. Where exactly are reports like “Avengers cast hates Brie” & “She’s difficult to work with” coming from anyway? Hint: they originated from and are being spread around by those that feel seriously threatened by Brie and are obsessed with her. Yes, dem 4Chan dwellers that can’t stop putting out hate videos of her on YouTube every damn day. Videos full of lies, deceit, butthurt, pure misogyny, and criticism directed at literally every single thing she does (the way she fucking breathes gets negatively pointed out—I see you Games and Geeks or whatever the hell that punk goes by). In short, pathetic lowlife incels are behind it.

Now unless VERIFIABLE reports come out that show she’s smug, unpleasant to be around, and has done genuinely bad things (saying things that offend white nationalists and super sensitive right wingers isn’t remotely bad), then by all accounts she’s not bad... at all. All this negativity surrounding her only exists thanks to fake news-spreading reich losers that want her to shut up and disappear. Well, she isn’t going anywhere. And even if she WAS difficult to work with, I’m sure those complaining about this don’t hold any double standards. Nope, not at all! In closing, toxic reactionary whincel voices are loud on the internet, but fortunately they’ll ultimately never represent the majority. Cheers.

reply

As a actress she's very good, and don't think many would dispute that. Not everything she does is great but when she's good she's very good.

But she definitely comes off like a very self important and I could imagine she's not the easiest to be around if you are a actor. She seems the type to get upset over anything. That critic thing just mad her come off like a bit of a dick.

reply

I've seen her in many things over the years and I've always enjoyed her performances (until Captain Marvel). She did well as a lead and stood out as a side character, always making me wish for more.

I have no interest in actors' personal lives, so I had no idea what she was like in public until recently. Can't say I was impressed. Nonetheless, I still very much appreciate her as an actress and disagreeing with her opinions/attitude isn't gonna make me stop watching and enjoying her stuff.

reply

She's not so bad.
SHE'S WORSE!

reply

Well coming from you with your history.. We can be certain that Brie Larson is a normal and likable girl.
