Highly underrated... Why the hate?

This guy is highly underrated and elevates nearly every film he is in...

He needs to be in more movies...

I don't understand the hate.. Why can't we look at the art, rather than focusing on the artist?

reply

I always thought he was 'ok' but not 'underrated' at this point in his career...
Plus his past public behavior was so obnoxious that it became boring quickly...no hate here though ( i do respect some of his stuff...he just seems like a jerk is all...)

reply

I think he just might be the greatest actor of his generation... Great range, often generates empathy in the viewer and really makes you feel it...

I think it's unfortunate that people don't like his off-screen persona for some reason... it's strange... just googling his name comes up with a lot of weird stories of hating him... For example, there was one guy who got punched in the face by a stranger simply because he "looked like" Shia... it's absurd...

I can't think of an actor of his generation that is at his level...

reply

Wow!
That 'face-punching' level of hate is really weird...im not a huge fan of face punching...Shia's ok but just an odd duck i suppose

reply

Two years later but I agree with you. He's a natural actor and can really show range. I look forward to seeing what else he brings over the next few decades.

reply

He's as good an actor as Justin Timberlake.

reply

Nice lololol!!!
Im gonna make this weird and say you are one of the few posters i really like to read!!
Sorry...that shit got weird:/

reply

Thanks, man. I appreciate it.

Have you seen Man Down or Charlie Countryman? Solid performances (so good in Man Down)... He was good in his supporting role in Fury as well...

Even in music videos he outshines Timberlake, as we saw i the Sia music video.. Such an expressive and emotionally sensitive actor. No comparison really... the only similarity is that they both have curly hair...

reply

Well, Timberlake was also quite good in Alpha Dog (2006), absolutely stole the show in The Love Guru (2008) and on par with Shia's Transformers in In Time (2011). Also, I'm looking forward to see his performance in Wonder Wheel (2017).

Pretty much as good as LaBeouf. Both are not incredibly good, but not that bad either. In fact, I prefer Timberlake as an actor than his music. Timberlake is also way better than other singer-cum-actor such as Britney Spears, Ice Cube or Eminem.

Oh, both too are equally hated for no reason.

reply

I've only seen Timberlake in In Time.. He was ok, but it wasn't much of a role... I find Shia makes even his more average roles memorable... I've been meaning to check out Alpha Dog... Wonder Wheel should be interesting, but in Woody Allen movies, everyone ends up being a neurotic version of Allen, if you know what I mean ;)

But yes, Timberlake is believable as the characters he plays, unlike the singers you mention...

Yeah.. it's odd.. the hate... Maybe it's because I don't really follow celebrity culture...

The good thing is that they're young so, still haven't hit their prime age for dramas and the meatier roles in genre films and such...

With actors public image is almost as important as talent.Unfortunately for LaBeouf he crapped all over his public image with his unpredictable strange and obnoxious behavior.

reply

I think he just comes off as a bit of an ass in RL, but I watch movies with him regardless. I like him in several movies.

>>Why can't we look at the art, rather than focusing on the artist?<<

The hate of course comes from the artists actions off screen. Thus he deserves every single bit of it.

Showbiz people by the nature of showbiz are in the public eye and ultimately WE pay their salaries. If they act like absolute jerks we are going to call them on it. If they act like angels and do many good things for people outside of their work, then we will praise and thank them.

Their art is NOT who they are. Their actions when not at work are who they are.

LaBeouf is therefore...borrowing from Bobby DeNiro last night...well, "Fuck LaBeouf"

reply

Agreed. Cool dude, its hard to hate him.

Apparently, despite multiple beatings, public humiliation and serial cheating, the actress ex of this A-/B+ list actor who has been acting since he was a tween, has decided to go back to him. Mia Goth/Shia LaBeouf (Shia LaBeouf packs on the PDA with ex Mia Goth... as the pair continue to rekindle their love two years after filing for divorce)

When an actor makes a sour spectacle of themselves to this extreme degree in real life, it become difficult to separate the actor from the role. He has been an adequate, above average actor but now I see him behind the mask thanks to his BS. I don't hate him but he irritates me enough to dispel the illusion he is supposed to be creating via his career.
He's been good enough in what Ive seen him in but I won't miss him.
