Scrappy Little Nobody

Anyone else read this?

I found it charming and engaging. I kind of wish she'd talked a bit more about being a child actor on Broadway, but it's not really a memoir. It's more of a wild romp through Anna Kendrick's sometimes disorganized but very clever mind. Sometimes ruefully funny, sometimes whimsically funny, she never asks you to like her but you end up liking her anyway.

And if Zac Efron every starts a cult, don't say she didn't warn you.

It had the opposite effect on me. I disliked her after reading it. She came across as narcissistic and trashy. She couldn't go more than 2 pages without some kind of reference to porn, dicks or boobs. She's vulgar, trashy and skanky. And FYI, one of her most popular tweets is one about her "intense need to be liked" so you're wrong about that. She's an attention seeker, just like most celebs are. Her behavior for a 30 year old is jarring. I couldn't believe how immature she was, and still is.

Sadly she's become yet another tell-all millennial who thinks the world wants to hear everything about them. One of the (rare) good qualities about her was that she wasn't a tell-all, that she valued privacy. That's all gone now. She's just like any other over-sharing, attention seeking celebrity now.

Agree. She tries way too hard to be irreverent. I find her annoying, and see right through her "I'm just like you" schtick.

You complain that she is a tell all millennial while you were referencing her book? You were aware going in that it wasn't a work of fiction right? That it was a story about her life through her eyes?

You are complaining because the book gave you what it advertised.

reply

No, I'm saying that she shouldn't have wrote one in the first place. Who writes a memoir at 31? She used to value privacy and now she comes across as just another narcissistic attention seeking celebrity.

And now I hear she's on snapchat, a social media platform made for 13 year olds. Sheesh, you'd think she was one the way she's been acting lately.

reply

What does her age have to do with her writing a memoir? Just because most people live boring lives working 9-5 jobs that they hate doesn't mean other people do. Clearly, a movie star lives a different life than others and people would be curious to here about it.

You're telling me Usain Bolt (30yo) wouldn't be able to write and sell a memoir on his life?

I've always quite liked Anna as an actor. I enjoyed the first half of her book, but by the time the book ended I liked her a lot less. Somebody mentioned 'humble bragging' in another thread, and I think that's hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately she came across as quite narcissistic (in my opinion).
