why is race such a big deal in America?
In that , why is the racial/religious background shoved to the front of any tv or movie star's bio more than ,it seems to me, anywhere else in the world?
And then the self imposed segregation? Especially in places where one would expect unity like at high school and colleges?

Now I am not saying that there isn't racism all over the world but the west in supposed to be enlightened, isn't it?

Someone made an earlier post on this IMDB page about why Rashida doesn't "play black". So, I guess that's why this question was being asked.
