So they trusted this jerk with only 3 movies under his belt

Heads should roll!

Kathleen Kennedy is responsible for hiring this hack. She and her BS PC agenda definitely must go.

reply

She likes, weak, stupid, cowardly men so she can boss them around.

reply

Boom! That's it. Kennedy only wants to work with people she can dominate. If they keep their mouths shut and mindlessly crank out the product, no problem. If they have the slightest bit of creative differences with her, they're out on their butts.

HAD HIS "FRESH VISION" BEEN A SUCCESS.THE HIRE WOULD BE MUCH ADMIRED.DIDNT WORK OUT.THE ONLY REAL ISSUE IS THE NOISE LEVEL OF THE SO CALLED "TRUE FANS" OVER THE WHOLE MESS,WHICH BASICALLY BOILS DOWN TO...A COUPLE MEDIOCRE MOVIES...BOOHOO,MOVE ON.

Yes, he was so successful with TLJ, that JJ & Lucas went all RETCON on virtually all of his subversion shit for RoS.

It's hard when your posts read like the rantings of a screaming drunk.

Well played, Sir - although I have no idea what it means, at least it isn't your typical response concerning pleasuring yourself.

I dunno...I liked Looper a lot, Brick's a real accomplishment, and Brothers Bloom was fun.

The Last Jedi was a collapsed flan of a film, but I think Johnson probably put a lot of effort and sweat into the project. It didn't come out right, but even great directors can fall victim to a flat one every now and then.

reply

I AGREE 100% WITH THIS^

reply

Sounds like me, I thought he was a good choice based on Looper. And after watching Force Awakens I was so excited to see what Rian Johnson’s follow up would be like. But, around 10mins into Last Jedi with the X-Wing “your momma phone call” scene - I knew this wasn’t going to be the serious/darker Star Wars movie I was hoping for.

reply

For me it was two points. I was subconsciously unhappy during the opening dogfight. The editing was off. After re-watching A New Hope and comparing the Death Star trench run dogfight, I had a laundry list of problems with The Last Jedi's space combat - pacing and shots were off so it was hard to know what the stakes were at any given time.

But I consciously knew it was going bad fast when Luke chucked that lightsabre over his shoulder. A misfire of comedy with the phone call was less tone-deaf (though it was) than taking the incredible final shot of The Force Awakens - particularly Hamill's poignant, loaded, dramatic look - and using it as bait for gag...

But, I guess my point was that, contrary to the OP's annoyance at their giving Johnson the reins, I totally get it - his body of work was small, yes, but quite impressive. And, overall, it continues to be worthy as a filmography. It's one misfire. The deck was also kinda stacked.

Can anybody make a Star Wars film that builds the mythology, takes it in surprising directions, and still satisfies fans? I doubt it. George Lucas - the man himself - couldn't do it with the polarizing prequels. Why would we think Johnson had a shot?

reply

He was the goyboy hired to kill Luke.

I usually like your stuff, so I'll try and do better next time.

How 'bout this: 'With the bad rap they got for killin' Christ, they didn't want to have one of their own on the hook for offing Luke.'.

Does that work?

reply

I like your stuff too! I’ll delete what I said before. Sorry.
I’m not sure what you’re trying to say, as in KK,JJ off the hook?

reply

No dude, this is entertainment, leave your comment posted - I don't care.

What I was saying is Luke in many ways is as significant a figure as any heroic figure in European mythology, and in many ways as profound a cultural influence as theological figures such as Christ or Buddha.

Were I a great kosher writer/director with a solid career and future opportunities, I would not want to be the guy to destroy the character of Luke (Goyboy) Skywalker shortly before I killed his character physically.

The kunt political agenda at Lucas Film wanted all the original characters destroyed (except Leia), before they had them physically killed in the movies.

I'm laying odds that the rumors of the remaining original cast dying in The Falcon were true, but testing indicated they couldn't get away with it - so they brought in a relative unknown, and not very kosher, Rian to do the deed.

I see what you mean. Interesting and sad.

For me Luke’s treatment was only one of the films many disappointments, like the silly slowmo space chase, ridiculous casino planet subplot and horribly written new characters like Holdo and Rose. The list is endless.

I didn't mind the fact that Luke was a hermit (the trailers hinted at this) and that he had rejected the Force out of fear, Its just the way they had to go about it. Like you said, character destroying.

reply

Yeah, it's like the line from Gladiator, though it's an old saying, 'To kill a great man, first you must destroy his reputation.'.

They wanted Luke completely ruined so his spirit and reputation would never overshadow whatever shit they're scheming in long term story planning.

I signed petitions to fire him or remove him from Star Wars. He did let us down on Star Wars. We'd like to have old republic or high republic movies. I put ideas in for the 2023 film to be a backstory as could also serve as Yoda backstory.

reply

He should be fired from Star Wars. He let us down. His trilogy won't be backstories to the prequel trilogy. Many of us would want backstories to the prequel trilogy. That's what the next film should've been but isn't.

The Game of Thrones crew was better for a trilogy.
