The Man that Killed Luke Skywalker everyone.

Just saying.

reply

Eh, I think we all know Luke will return in the next episode.

reply

The man that defiled Luke Skywalker then killed him, just saying.

The father/mentor character ALWAYS dies. It's an official part of "The Hero's Journey", and it happens in all the great stories because the hero can't really come into his or her own with a parental figure like Qui-Gon, Yoda, Obi-Wan, or Luke around!

It's such a Star Wars tradition that people have been predicting Luke's death since the new films were announced.

reply

The problem with that was the new hero completely sucked. As a result of her complete suckage next to no one wanted Luke to die. However, the "white slavers" (As Lucas called them) wanted to push their social justice warrior I am female hear me roar agenda and killed the franchise. No matter what they do in the next episode it won't matter. The bigots ruined it.

reply

Doesn't matter, because the father/mentor character always goes the way of Obi-Wan and Dumbledore, whether the story is great or sucky!

Maybe that's why Luke went to hide on the island planet, he realized Fate had forced him into the role of father/mentor.

reply

The problem with his death is RJ wrote Luke in a way that is 1000% against everything the Jedi stand for, it went entirely against Lukes arc in the OT, it went against everything that was established in the OT just for "muh subversion". He took what was established with SW and took a giant shit on everything.

reply

I'm with RJ on that one. The Jedi we saw in the prequels sucked, and their ways shouldn't have been re-created.

reply

Yah I don't believe you honestly like what RJ did with Luke. You just want to be contrarian and spite people who don't like TLJ.

reply

I don't 100% agree with everything that Luke did in "TLJ", but I truly, honestly, dislike the Jedi as presented in the Prequels.

Nobody who'd actually thought about their methods and philosophy for ten seconds would want to re-create their order as it was during the rise of Palpatine, with their psychological abuse of children and political entanglements, Anakin can't be the only one who turned against his Jedi Masters. I like to think that the Jedi were once genuinely good and brought out the best in their knights, and the order we saw in the prequels was the last gasp of a fading order that was mired in rules and protocol and whose grip on the Force was fading.

Of course that was partly bad storytelling, in order for Anakin to be at all sympathetic as an antihero he had to have antagonists within the Jedi, and maybe Lucas overdid it and made the Jedi less admirable than he'd intended. But the fact is I find them deeply unlikeable, and if I were in Luke's position, I'd think twice about repeating their mistakes, and I'd find the task of trying to bring the Force back to the galaxy without reliable guidance overwhelming. And if I realized I'd fucked up big time and created a Darth Emo, I might take off to be a hermit too. But then, I always liked the idea of being a hermit.

reply

You should not put a spoiler in the title not everyone saw the film on opening day like myself.

Yeah that was tough for me too losing Luke. I wanted to see him do so much more and now he never will, except as a force ghost but it’s not the same thing. Wish his death didn’t happen but at least the way they showed him staring at the 2 suns was a powerful image. I saw the movie twice and the second time I shed a tear for Luke. At least RJ gave me that, brought me there.

reply

That's fine, because the people who actually care about the character rejected it and don't consider it canon.

reply

Like Mark Hamill :)

reply

It's not cannon. It's disney social justice warrior tripe.

reply

Let The Past Die, Kill It If You Have To.

reply

Nope. In this instance no sir.

reply
