Did he want to leave or did the producers just decided to let him go? Same question goes for Sam jones. I think these the characters of these actors could have brought alot more to the plot if they used to their full potential. Things on Smallville would have been alot more interesting.

shareWell, and they just couldn't drag Whitney on for another season. I loved him, he was great and all but I think he servced his purpose. Plus, season two was the Clark and Lana friendship-romance relationship.
shareIn Smallville Magazine, they say he was wrote off simply because the show needed a change. They had 2 make the show grow up, & become more Superman, & if u know your Superman trivia, there is no Whitney Fordman in it.
shareWell that's what they call the "party line." =) I think they just ran out of ideas for him and wrote themselves into a corner with him. I also know that they later regretted losing the dynamic that he brought to the show, which is why they hired Jensen Ackles 2 seasons later to basically play Whitney v.2.0 for a good long while there.
