wants to be the next Bond...

This probably won't happen, of course but my God, does this guy's ego ever end? Dwayne is already attached to Fast & Furious, Jumanji, and Black Adam, does he really need another franchise under his belt? And as James Bond too, the least suitable role he could possibly play?

Remember when Clint Eastwood rightfully turned down the part in the 70's? Eastwood did that as he felt Bond should only ever be played by an Englishman. The Rock should learn a thing about humility from the legend some time...

I think he knows his shelf life as an 'actor' isn't much longer. He wants to squeeze every bit out of it while he can. I wouldn't want to see him as Bond. But I don't watch his films at all. I don't think he is good even as an action star.

reply

REMEMBER THIS 20 YEARS FROM NOW...WHEN ELDERLY ROCK IS STILL WORKING CONSISTANTLY.

reply

Yeah, working consistently on direct-to-DVD action movies, that is. 😁

reply

Don’t mind him, he gets paid $0 a week to shill for Disney 24/7. I really feel bad for the fellow.

reply

REMEMBER THIS...THE ROCK WILL WORK UNTIL HE DIES IN MAINSTREAM MOVIES...SIMILARTO JOHN WAYNE.

I kind of like the old Rock. Ballers was an interesting show that reached a lot of people ... Elizabeth Warren claimed it was her favorite show. Probably to pander to capitalism in order to bolster her establishment cred.

But he is getting so weird looking, and his head is shrinking and turning into a kind of small pinhead on top of a roided out body. That's cool though, everyone has something going on, and he's competing pretty well with Arnold as being the most bizarrely successful foreign moviestar.

I think he just likes to be in the news.

reply

He knows there's zero chance he'll get it, but saying it gets him lots of attention and helps maintain his profile and brand. He's a master at marketing himself.

reply

All that being said, a spin off with him playing 008 or 009, could be great.

Hell, just cast him as Felix Leitner.

You know, now that I think of it, it is surprising they have not tried to milk Bond into an universe.

"You know, now that I think of it, it is surprising they have not tried to milk Bond into an universe."

So true this. MCU, DC, Fast & Furious -- you think they'd be jumping on that money train.

reply

It would cheapen the brand to make a universe out of it. Broccoli and Wilson know better.

And really, does ANYONE want to see over-exposed, cheesy action star The Rock....faking a British accent and pretending to be James Bond?

That has to be a joke.

reply

YOU MISS THE POINT...IN A BOND UNIVERSE HE WOULD NEITHER BE BOND NOR NEED AN ACCENT...I LIKE THE ROCK,BUT WOULD PREFER NON OF THIS MUMBO JUMBO EVER HAPPENS.

reply

Plenty of space for a Bond STYLE film, set in the Bond-verse, with the Rock as Felix Leitner.

Hell, give Bond a few years off. Let it lie fallow.

Come back to it, after the last one, is 5 or 10 years old.

Actually, that could be a really good thing.

reply

I don't think it would cheapen the brand, if you stick with actors versus action stars.

DJ is associated with over-the-top action movies that border on live action cartoons. There's a place for that sort of stuff, but not in the Bond universe. Same with Ryan Reynolds, Jason Statham, Vin Diesel and all the rest of that crowd. (I know Reynolds and Statham can do legit acting, but they are firmly associated with the action genre now.)

But, all these other actors that get mentioned as possible successors to Bond -- bring some of them in as characters set in the same world with the periodic cross-over. And bring in some strong women as well. I could see that working.

reply

He's too old for most things nowadays.

reply

And, he’s too big of a brand. Everything he’s in now...you basically just think: “Look, there’s The Rock again, this time pretending to be a secret agent.

reply

Nice low-budget publicity stunt there. Cost him nothing to say that, and people are talking about him everywhere! Even here!

reply

The ego on this guy is unreal.

reply

Too much of a grunt to play someone as sophisticated as bond. Or even a bond villain.

He should go back to wrestling and delete Twitter.

reply

He is way too old, ugly, and has no hair. A D&G model with some weapons training would be better than him and if they don't pick the right guy this time, Magic Mike 3 is going to have better sales than the next 007.

reply

Whether they want to admit it or not, the series is gonna have to get back to its roots. Bond is going to have be a politically incorrect, sexist, misogynist dinosaur again to draw back in the fans in the next installment. We've just had 15 years of the emotionally charged, romantically sensitive Bond with Craig, it's about time we get back to the women shagging, bitch slapping days of Connery.

There'll be articles written up the ass from the likes of Vice and Buzzfeed about how insensitive and politically incorrect the new Bond is, which will only make people more eager to see it.

There you go, EON, your business model and approach for the next 007 actor in the bag and sorted. No need to personally thank me, just send me a check when the movie comes out. 😉

reply

Know your audience. I agree except Roger Moore was my favorite, not for looks, but personality.

reply

I stopped watching and caring about Bond when I was teenager circa George Lazenby, and only watched that because of Diana Rigg. But since they were on streaming, I did want the Daniel Craig Bond movies, and I liked the arc and the transformation. I ended up being curious about "No Time to Die" and we watched it, and I thought it was like the best Bond I've seen. I enjoyed it.

I think that scene at the top where the little girl pops out from under the bed and blasts her mother's assassin. To bad she didn't think to finish him off. That movie had a broad appeal and life that no other Bond movie got close to.

I can't think of anyone who can pick up and move forward with what Daniel Craig left. And I didn't like Daniel Craig much as an actor ... which maybe is what made it good.
