Imagine if Arnold only did comic book films or tagged into successful established franchises

Seriously, when was the last truly original story that The Rock did? Seems to me hes always latching onto the coattails of established money making IP's. Only reason he is the "richest actor in hollywood".

reply

Well, maybe you should watch more of his movies :D

reply

Like what? Nothing of substance in the Rocks filmography.

Jumanji has been his best films, and he was co-starring with others

reply

That's kind of what Arnold did, other than the Terminator it's all sci-fi novels and copying what Stallone was doing.

reply

Raw Deal, Predator, Red Heat, True Lies, and Last Action Hero all say "Hello".

reply

non sci fi action movies .
Wasnt that what Stallone was doing?

reply

Stallone had a more eclectic mix of films.

The Rocky series were sports-drama films, and Over The Top was... I don't really know how you classify that movie? The less said about Rhinestone the better.

Stallone did other drama-thriller films like Lockdown and Night Hawks, too.

So while he had non-sci fi action films like Cobra and Rambo added to his repertoire, he had very different films mixed in as well.

I would say Arnold and Stallone both complimented each other by diving into various kinds of masculine films for a very similar audience. The only thing Stallone hadn't done was a medieval fantasy-adventure film like Conan The Barbarian. That would have been interesting to see.

reply

You never saw Pumping Iron, Hercules in New York or Conan the Barbarian.

this one jungle movie ...

reply

How many movies has the Rock done, where the trailer shows him in a jungle.

It's kinda his calling card now.

He's the jungle guy, that makes kids movies, and popcorn rubbish that nobody cares about once they leave the cinema.

reply

Why? Dwayne Johnson is his own man. And he's always charismatic. Same as Arnie.

reply

Arnold was surprisingly thoughtful in his choices. Total Recall is an amazing film

reply

Arnie is a very intelligent person. A lot of people think he’s a meathead and he certainly plays up that sort of persona but the man knows how to market himself.

reply

You don’t become Mr. Olympia 8 fucking times by being a meathead.

reply

You blame Rock without realizing that Hollywood is a sick, dying animal.
If Arnold was in his prime now, half of his films would be remakes - and the other half, sequels.

reply

Skyscraper was really good.

reply

It was a fuckin’ video game.

reply

A lot of his movies feel that way... like 'T' for Teen rated action games turned into films. Heck, Rampage was based on a video game.

His movies feel safe and cookie-cutter.

reply

This. As much as people clown on Doom, at least he was the antagonist for the only time in his career (not including his "tweener" role in his first Fast/Furious flick . He needs to play the bad guy more.

reply

Only because of Anna Nicole's tits

reply

Yeah. Probably the most original film he was in was the Other Guys and he died after a few minutes into the film.
