First time Oscar nominee... nominated twice

This has nothing to do with the fact that men find her hot and the fact that she has a vagina, no....

I think it's deserving for Marriage Story, she ain't winning but she deserved at least to be in the running. Supporting Actress one I can give or take for her performance.

reply

Considering she's up for Best Actress & Best Supporting Actress, I'd say, yes, her having a vagina has some part of it.

reply

Not in 2020.

reply

She has been doing good work for over a decade. She deserves a nod. And the vagina helps.

reply

She deserved both nominations.

reply

Nah, Scarlett was fantastic in those tow movies and as someone else pointed out she has been doing good work for a while now. She deserves the noms.

reply

Personally I feel she doesn't need the supporting nomination. Marriage Story is one of her very best performances but she has very little to do in Jojo Rabbit. She lucked out with a tag-along nod for a broadly popular film.

reply

I have not seen JoJo Rabbit yet but she sure deserves her Marriage Story Nomination.

reply

She didn't really deserve it for JoJo... It was as if they decided to give her a nod simply because she pulled a Meryl Streep and used an accent. Her performance in the movie really wasn't that good, especially the way she walked around in some scenes she looked like she was trying to do a catwalk walk as if she was a model, which was completely out of place given she was supposedly the wife of a deserter. If they wanted to give a nod to an actress in the movie then it would have made more sense to have picked Thomasin McKenzie for her role in the movie. But hey, this is the Oscars so it really isn't about which actor/actress or film really deserves it as it is about which studio managed to market their actor/actress/film to the voting members best.... Which of course raises two very interesting questions... When the members are the ones that decide who gets nominated why do they continually bitcha nd moan each year about the lack of diversity in nomination or winners? They are the ones that picked them.... and the biggest question is what makes these members the best judges of who is worthy? It isn't as if you couldn't find at least one and in some cases a dozen examples for ever member where they were in a complete dog shit movie... Frankly I would give more credence to an award show that was decided by actual movie goers that spent their hard earned cash to see the movie than a bunch of dumbass Hollywood folks that churn out 90% shit and only make a handful of good movies in any given year.

"what makes these members the best judges of who is worthy?"

Because they are a bunch of arrogant fat turds who have their dad's dick so deep their asses that they think they know better about quality than other people. The worst part: some people are like BLOCKED from ever getting on that stage, no matter their worth or number of nominations. This is utter horseshit.

Amen.

So only ugly women can get nominated for multiple Oscars? She did a great job in Marriage Story, haven't seen the other one. Did her performance deserve a nomination? Hmm probably. I am more surprised that the film is nominated for best picture. It was entertaining, certainly not one of the best films of the year even with the outstanding performances imo. I think she probably got two nominations because she falls into the "she has been around for a while now, did some good work this year, and hasn't had a nomination yet category".

I have the same feeling.

Most likely she just blew the right executive that was willing to spend a few million on a Oscar campaign so he could brag to his golf buddies that she blew him.
