Nominated for two Oscars

Congrats to her on finally getting an Oscar nomination and doing it by being a double nominee, first for lead actress in Marriage Story and supporting actress in Jojo Rabbit.

Well deserved, here is hoping she wins one of them.

reply

I think she's a terrible actress and hope she loses both.

reply

I haven't seen all her movies but at her best she was mediocre and in some she was terrible.

reply

She was probably best in Lost and Translation, but by "best" I mean a 6/10.

reply

Agreed.

reply

I totally agree.

reply

She was great in both films, but I don't think she will win either category.

reply

Congratulations. Best of luck to her.

reply

She was excellent as the mother in Jojo Rabbit. A very memorable, pathos inspiring performance.

reply

Agreed. She's never been better.

IMPRESSIVE.

Very impressive.

I don’t go nuts over who gets nominated for these - still fairly snobbish and rather backwards - prestigious awards, especially when it’s the Academy, however I’d be lying if I said it isn’t great to see those who deserve recognition for their film work get noticed (of course it’s best when you’re a fan of these nominated talented individuals). Scarlett’s riveting performances in Jojo Rabbit & Marriage Story (both career best) deserved to get nominated. I’m particularly happy about her Jojo nom.

reply

Only once, I believe, has an actor been nominated twice in one year and lost both awards. The other was Sigourney Weaver for Gorillas in the Mist and Working Girl (she was heavily touted to win for the latter). I suspect that Johansson will join her, unless there’s a groundswell of support for Jojo Rabbit in the race to the finish line.

I had mis-read your post (not realizing you meant lost both noms), so I reposted below with the right info.

reply

I’m very grateful that you picked up on my error!

reply

No, it’s occurred 4 times before, most recently Cate Blanchett in 2007.

Sigourney Weaver
Emma Thompson
Julianne Moore
Cate Blanchett

Scar Jo is the 12th double nominee.

reply

Yes, thanks for the catch! Can’t believe I overlooked them. Of course, Thompson and Blanchett were already Oscar winners... I do think that with JLO out of the picture Johansson is the only contender with a (slim) chance of sneaking past Laura Dern.
