Ruined her chances at the Oscars with her problematic comments

She was probably getting that elusive Oscar nomination that she has never gotten in her nearly 30 year career but with her recent problematic comments and incidents I think it is safe to say that she has no chance of being nominated let alone awarded at the Oscars. Her stance when it comes to Woody, her decision to play a trans actor, hogging roles from minorities and her comment about her being able to play whatever she wants even a tree could not have gone well with the Oscar voters.

reply

Very much doubt that. She'll get a best actress in a leading role nomination for sure. It's a pretty vocal minority that actually cares enough about something someone said months ago to snub said person from a meaningless ceremony

reply

There is nothing wrong with her playing a trans actor, the idea that you have to be trans in order to play a trans character (or any such similar thinking) is nonsensical and antithetical to the very concept of acting. As she rightly said she should be able to play whatever role she wants.

Nothing she said or did is "problematic" nor will it prevent her from getting an Oscar nomination. She will get it due to her amazing performances in Jojo Rabbit and Marriage Story.

reply

The OP didn't seem to be commenting on what she should or shouldn't be "allowed" to play, just that the Hollywood perception would be that she was "problematic" and therefore unworthy of Oscars.

I think you're right, though; she's got major buzz for Jojo Rabbit and Marriage Story and it'd be surprising if she wasn't nominated/victorious at the next ceremony.

Me personally, I love Scarlett Johansson and I think she's a brilliant actress who can tackle any role. I'd love to see her play that tree. I think she's been underused over the years, second-fiddling through the Marvel movies, which are live-action cartoons anyway, and getting far too little material like Her, Under the Skin, Lost in Translation, and Match Point.

I hope she gets as many parts as possible.

reply

According to Hollyweird, she IS a minority.

The word "problematic" has a terrible reputation theses days. I would not use it unless I were to poke fun at a person who did use it which I am NOT doing to you. NOT SARCASM

The word has been ruined.

reply

"The world has been ruined." FTFY

reply

So I watched Iron Man 2 last night, and couldn't help but wonder exactly where she was storing all her gadgets in that skin-tight outfit. There're really only two options.

reply

problematic comments? for hollywood?

she said she will vote for donald in 2020?

reply

Yes problematic for the SJW/feminists.

reply

right....... but lucky for OP, scarlett is now a hardcore fembot that hates donald........ don't worry OP , she will get her oscars at some point

reply

Thats why i like her. She refuse to play the perfect sjw like other sheeps Hollywood actors do

reply

What's with this Trans bullshit always getting headlines? I live in SoCal and see more paraplegic homeless people than some Trans person "struggling"

reply

Sh...! Don't let the thought police hear you think that!

reply

Well you see the Trannies parade is filled with mentally ill trannies that have jobs and therefore money to donate to political lobbyists that can bribe the politicians and push for tranny loving candidates. The homeless folks on the other hand don't have enough money for a house let alone money to piss away bribing politicians with lobbyists. So who do you think TPTB are going to care about? Money is all that matter in America and if you are in a group that doesn't have it your fucked.

reply

Not a problem for me. Gonna keep watching her films and digging her high levels of talent. Awards mean very little.

reply

What talent? Her acting is incredibly wooden. She only has one facial expression.

reply

But according to Harvey she gave good head and swallows it all. Remember she is one of the Harvey girls that never spoke out about what he was doing. Does he look so ugly that Harvey wouldn't boink her? And if someone was willing to boink Harvey you know they would boink any director/producer it took to get a role.

reply

The talent required to bring vulnerable, quiet power and alien tones to her role in Under the Skin or the naive, confused awakening moments in Lost in Translation.

reply

She acts the same in both films.

reply

What? No. I disagree greatly. Very, very different characters were delivered there.

She's also stellar in Match Point, Her, and many, many other films.

reply

I wouldn't bother seems like this poster can't appreciate nuance when it comes to acting. Scarlett is a fantastic actress.

reply

I agree. She one of my favourite actresses of all-time. She's got a stellar record. Still haven't seen Marriage Story, but I'm looking forward to it.

reply

Same, one of my absolute favorite actresses ever. I am currently on a marathon that will no doubt take nearly two months of watching a film of hers a day starting chronologically with her very first film North. It is so great to see her grow both in age and talent (and beauty) and to see so many different roles. She is very versatile.
