Isnt anyone here saddened that this happened?

I am hoping I have found a forum for logical people who understand the business. Inst anyone here discouraged by the fact that the character Scarlett was cast to play was born a woman and then transitioned to a man, and that was deemed unacceptable? Both Scarlett and the real live person were born with vaginas. She is completely qualified to play this character.

Yes, it’s unfortunate. I think people forget because she’s done a bunch of comic book movies, but she’s a very talented actor.

reply

Agree, it is unfortunate. She is a very talented actress and I hate to see the outrage mob have an impact on her career leading to her backing down from taking any role. She probably did it more due to the Black Widow movie being greenlit but who knows. In any case, I hope this doesn't becomes a constant with the roles she chooses now that these people got a "win" over her.

reply

Absolutely agree.

*actress

Actor can be used for females. Some people think actor shouldn't be gender specific. It's pretty much up to person if they want to call themselves an actor or an actress.

reply

Around the early 2000s there was JD Pardo in The Gwen Araujo Story, Felicity Hoffman in TransAmerica and in the 90s, Boys Don't Cry with Hilary Swank. Jeffrey Tambor in Transparent in 2014.

I didn't hear as much outrage or backlash then. Gay actors can play straight characters and vice versa.

reply

Saddened? no. I expected this because unfortunately this are the times we are living in, an actor or any other artist has to be very careful as too not offend anybody or their career can go to shit very fast.

reply

It's despicable. The "sensitivity" movement can destroy a talented actress's career like this.

reply

The decision was hers. I think she should have stayed on board but she's part of the problem of allowing social media blabber to own the narrative. She in fact legitimized it.

reply

Agreed she should have gone ahead with the project.

reply

Woah. So being nice and respectful to a collective is wrong now. It's no different than when you racists hate Starfire being black or Human Torch being black

reply

No, being responsive to a social media driven "outrage" is weak and reactionary. The movie is not based on reality either. It's Sci-Fi Fantasy.

reply

I doubt more than a handful of people care one way or the other.

Most people this character is supposed to represent are the ones who can help to consult how authentic and true to life it is, I think according to most trans people who are the real experts on authenticity of trans life, the character should not be played by a woman if it is a ftm trans person, because it's a man on the inside who after transition also becomes a man on the outside, only sort of physically handicapped by not having certain aspects of the male sex. Scarlett obviously cared about being true to life, just because most people are ignorant of issues of the few does not mean that the film is meant to be dishonest to reality that those few know about and most don't, many films try to bring in all kinds of experts in fields that most dont know about, only because filmmakers want the film to be realitstic as much as possible. Trans people are here to be listened to as consultants more than most whiners who have a problem with her staying away from this role, she is the producer of this film, she makes the decisions how the film should look, it is what she said, she wants the film to be played by trans people, so there could be a balance of opportunity for trans actors, and also wants the film to be more realistic. It is wiser to better listen to trans people's advice because it touches them the most with regards to authenticity, truth and spreading awareness, if it the awareness is inaccurate, it's better there is no false representation at all. If the film is not made, it's the victory all the same. Playing a character is not the same like playing a different race or gender, how many actors play a different gender or race, very few, there exist trans actors in the industry, if the film is meant to be popular, they can cast famous people around the main character, like in the case of French film Fantastic Woman. We don't live in the 90's or 00's, representation of various races and genders is more affordable.

I am angry. Angry that people give in to these PC, social media mob complainers. Who gives a crap a bunch of the "I'm OFFENDED!" crowd deemed it unacceptable. I wish people would just say, "tough shit", go on with whatever it is they are doing and just ignore these people.

I wish they just did the movie, Scarlett starred in it, they ignored the "OFFENSE!, OFFENSE!" crowd and went on with their lives. Any media questions I wish they just dismissed and said "I don't live my life based on the whims of social media trolls living in their parents basements" and then refused to respond to any more questions about that.

Saddened? no. Which role is it? The Rub & tug role? I dont know.
But I'm sure I'm not in the few that would like to see the hot Scarlett play a man. Enough of these transgender issues where society has to accept equality. Society is f'd up as it is. We don't need to add to it.
