That's kind of the point. He's a guy who thinks he's a better musician than he really is. He gets high instead of practices. He screws his woman and his friends. He's unreliable. And he's a slob who's not serious about his life.

He's a stoned dilettante.

I like his reformation scenes in the last few episodes of Season 2. Cleaning up can be a great turning point if the character continues on that road.

Personally, if I were the Vietnamese girl, I'd stay a million miles away.

So I can't disagree with you at least up till now. I assume he's just the type of character found in New Orleans.

I forgot to mention that it seems like the actor's doing a great job. He is more than annoying. He MFing exasperating.

To OP: You mix up character and actor. Michael is doing a great job. I'm very much looking forward to Sonny's evolution. He has a lot of growing up to do.
