Why is it easier to feel sorry for Larry when he gets abused by More than Curly?

Growing up as a kid I've found it easier to feel sorry for Larry whenever he gets the brunt of Moe's wrath but whenever Curly gets the brunt of Moe's wrath I can't help but laugh and find a lot of humor in it.

I like Larry the best, but I feel no sorrow for him. He mouthed off to Moe the absolute most. I did feel sorry for Curly though.

Larry was the rebellious teenager and Curly was the innocent child. Moe was the stern, domineering, authoritative parent.

Larry was an integral part of the team as the straight man.

If he didn’t take abuse it wouldn’t have worked as well.

Being called a porcupine and have chunks of curls ripped out was funny if not also cruel.

I laughed my ass off.

Even my teenage daughters laugh at this slapstick and originally thought it was stupid.

Proof it WOULD work with modern young audiences over the $HIT “frat boy” humor they’ve had the displeasure of enduring these days.
