After Lost I figured he was certainly going to have a big career. His character reminded me of Jones or Solo. But, there's been nothing like that except a cameo in Mission Impossible.

I mentioned this about the Star Trek shows, I find it amazing that TV shows have some great actors and then the actors just disappear. This guy hasn't but I thought he would be great for movies and is just in bland TV shows.
He did one or two TV shows that lasted a season or three IIRC. But, otherwise, yeah, it's surprising that he didn't turn up in more stuff.
He'd be a good candidate for the MCU. Gambit maybe. Dye his hair and I could even picture him as Wolverine.

I was excited when Colony came on with him in it but it was one of those cheap slow moving shows and I couldn't take it.
He's in some western show with Kevin costner I never heard of, but that sounds dull as well.
He was offered Gambit twice. The first time he declined. The 2nd time they reneged (according to him) b/c of his age.

Taylor Kitsch is another guy who should fit a lot of starring handsome guy roles, but it isn't happening.
Just because somebody strikes YOUR fancy doesn't mean they are the next Cary Grant or Harrison Ford.

I never really watch much with Kitsch, but he got a raw deal with John Carter. The books were excellent and thought provoking, but they decided to take all that out and made a boring film. So, it wasn't his fault it was a movie without content.
yes, he's just a model with a modest ability to play not much more than stock characters.
He didn't convert his closest thing to a big chance and cross over as a film star. And now he's too old.
He's right where he belongs -- with that stable of tv actors that seem to rotate through all these shows. Maybe he'll eventually up his game and deliver something more than two dimensions in the right role.

However, a lot of people liked him on Lost, due to the character writing and his ability to play that character, so you can't say he wasn't appealing because he did in fact appeal to people. There is no reason why he couldn't do equally well with similar characters.
Who said he didn't have appeal? He's on tv. And serial dramas are the place to be right now.
But there are levels of appeal (like his modeling work) and levels of talent (like his tv work to date).
Fox, O'Quinn, Emerson, Andrews, and even Lily were recognized by major awards for their acting on Lost. But never Holloway. Emerson wasn't even supposed to be a regular but his performance as Linus in one episode made the writers alter the show to include him. But with Lost, the premise was the real star. Fox was the closest thing to a star character and even he petered out in his brief film career. And if you can't see the difference between O'Quinn's or Emerson's acting chops as opposed to Holloway's, I can't help you.
Maybe you just have a crush on Sawyer as all the ladies did. But not all tv heartthrobs should go on to become George Clooney. But as I said, cable tv/streaming is where it's at anyway. Movie stars are going extinct. IP has become the film star as the A-list shrinks. And many ex-A-listers have moved to tv/streaming already. Becoming a central character of the next big show is a bigger deal than being in movies for most.
I will have to examine my mind for crush status, lol.
You are correct, many great actors on the show. I disliked Fox to the extreme as he was wooden and constipated looking. Also, he seems like a bad person in reality.
Anyway, I still wish this dude played Solo in a movie series. No one can stop me!
He would have been a perfect Solo if they had struck that iron 10 years ago. Star Wars is finished though. They killed the past as hard as they could.

The short guy they cast as Solo was terrible and it was a fucking "YOUNG" Solo which I hate. I hated Young Indy and all that shit. I don't want to see origin stories.
In the 80s there was a series of Solo books and they were really good. You could still do it.
As you've been saying, his career is over I think and just going to be on TV. His agent is a fool.
The Solo books were great. I even read the lesser, shitty Lando Calrisian books. (screw Vuffi Ra)

When I was a kid books were hard to find because I was in a rural area.
I think Allen Dean Foster wrote three of the Solo books. He was a good SF writer.
