will the name Adolf ever become a normal name again?

in 2045 it will be 100 years since this dude died. do you think people will start naming there kids Adolf again after that? it is a pretty rad name actually. if u named ur kid Adolf u can nickname him Adog or something cool. would Ad be for Adolf the same shortname as Al is for Alex? so many opportunities with this name really it is a shame it has been unofficially discontinued

Was Adolf a popular name in the early 20th century or were his parents trailblazers?

reply

according to wikipedo on the name Adolf = During the 19th and early 20th century, Adolf was a popular name for baby boys in German-speaking countries and to a lesser extent also in French-speaking countries

It has been a common name before (for example Adidas = Adolf Dassler) and gained a lot of extra popularity in the 30's - which it immediately lost again in the 40's. This lead to an over-proportionate amount of Adolfs of a certain age group during the following decades - and the inevitability of a generation with politicians named Adolf (again), leading to (inofficial) campain slogans like "Wer einmal schon für Adolf war, wählt Adolf auch in diesem Jahr" in the late 50's.

In everyday life, the German Adolfs I've encountered wanted to be called "just Adi" instead and they were all born in the 30's.

"Adidas?"
"Adi does everybody"

reply

Perhaps it might be resurrected as a girl's name. Adolfia for example.

reply

Adolfina would also be a pretty rad version of female Adolf

I see Hitler's brother Alois Jr had a son named William Hitler. He, unsurprisingly, later changed his surname. But he gave one of his sons the middle name Adolf. Which is all the more unusual as William had fought in the war in the US Navy and publicly claimed to hate his Uncle. And the surname he changed to, Stuart-Houston, is basically inspired by Houston Stewart Chamberlain. Chamberlain was a 'racialist writer' and strong influence on Adolf Hitler's antisemitic views.

A co-worker I’ve known for 35 years has Adolf as his middle name. First name is Richard.

I recall a few years ago some parents named their kid Adolf and the state wanted to step In And take the child away. Forgot the details.
