Freddie's American Accent

There's been a few comments over the boards questioning Freddie's Accent especially when he is playing an American. So i'm using this blog to defend him and all the other actors (british or otherwise) acting as an American.

Obviously not living in America his accent maybe wrong to an American but to my ears in Spiderwick Chronicles he does have an American twang. Though I find in movies unless you have a international player cast or they have deep American accents the actors all have roughly the same accent.

Anywho Freddie is certainly brilliant in all his movies.

I think his American accent is quite good.

If you travel all over the United States, you will hear all sorts of different dialects and ways of pronouncing words. There is no one specific American accent. Freddie does an amazing job and sounds totally American as Norman.

His British accent slips when he's yelling/screaming but overall he's doing a decent job with it!

I agree, mschristine, and as I am sure know, this is common for non-American actors. The only two non-American actors who rarely slip, ever, to my ears, are Christian Bale and Rachel Griffths.

I came here because I just saw the trailer for the "Bates Motel" tv show, which includes a clip of him screaming. During that screaming part, his British accent comes through loud and clear; it doesn't sound American in the slightest.

I haven't watched the show itself, so can't comment on his accent in general.

I'm watching the first episode of the show now. I've heard his accent slip up but not too badly (yet). An American accent isn't easy to put on, I think he's doing well with it so far.
