Why would she say she was ignored after the Oscar nomination ?

Frankly, I don't understand why she would say she couldn't get work after her well-deserved Oscar nomination for the wonderful The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) when in the following 5 years, she was in 5 No1 hit films - including two she headlined - all opening in the 23-56M range in the US : I Can Do Bad All By Myself (2009), The Karate Kid (2010), Think Like A Man (2012), Think Like a Man Too (2014), No Good Deed (2014). That's the kind of track record only very, VERY few Oscar nominees could pull off.

Also looking at her filmography pre-Oscar, all this proves that she was one of the rare nominees who actually managed to put that first nomination to good use and become a proper movie star in the process. If anything, she should be considered a great example and role model because she is not only an Oscar and Emmy nominated, Golden Globe winning actress, but also a bankable movie star and television legend-in-the-making.

All that would be an incredible accomplishment for anyone, let alone a 46 years-old actress of colour, considering the ageist, sexist, racist tendencies of the industry. My $0.02.

P.S. Not to mention she was also in a big hit with Tina Fey and Steve Carell (Date Night) and was cast alongside two of the most beloved movie stars of all time, as well (Larry Crowne).

Every single one of those films, besides No good Deed, would have been a hit without her. She was pretty much ignored after her Oscar win and did what ever was handed to her. She got a nomination in 2008, and you name 5 #1 films. How many more besides those 5 did she do? How many of those 5 are even good? I say 1, IF that. Date Night (horrible and if you blink, you'll miss her), Larry Crowne (not good, and she has maybe 2 minutes of screen time), etc. She was 2 seconds from passing on Empire.

Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation (Eat, Pray, Love)

Right, those movies that were listed after her nomination were not considered A list movies. They did well at the box office but they are not on anyone's Oscar watch. The movies she's done after Benjamin Button and Karate Kid are huge step downs.

How is "I can Do Bad All by Myself" a movie she was the main star in and "Think Like a Man" which was a huge success a step down from Benjamin Button or even the Karate Kid? I never saw the karate kid so I can't speak on her part in it, but I never remember she's in Benjamin Button until someone mentions it.

I bet you're wondering what a place like this is doing in a girl like me-The Mummy

Although they were hits, they were only hits to a certain demographic. Think Like a Man and I Can Do Bad All By Myself are absolutely no comparison to Benjamin Button which stars are A list actors and The Karate Kid was a big movie because it was a remake 1, and 2, it was connected to Will Smith who is a Blockbuster movie star. In case you didn't know, no matter how well a movie does, if
it is considered a "black movie" it is usually negated in terms of how well it is received. How many times have you seen a Tyler Perry movie on the list of Oscar contenders? His movies are NOT oscar caliber.

^What about For Colored Girls?

The Karate Kid was actually a great movie. Better than the original.
