You do realise he isn't held up as genius because of his theories on the future, right? He contributed to science with his work on stuff like singularities and black hole mechanics. That's what makes him a genius, not his opinions on how things might play out in the future.

It has great potential to help us, but the point is... why would be all about us and not all about itself? There is plenty to be worried of here.

I couldn't agree more. As a kid, I was all like "aliens! yeah! hope we meet them soon!"
As an adult, however, I honestly don't understand people who actually want us to encounter technologically advanced, intelligent alien lifeforms. Why any sane adult thinks such a meeting would be anything but calamitous is beyond me.

I tend to sadly agree; but, oddly, I am optimistic that human life would continue elsewhere.

Climate change might ravage the earth. It has before. Not sure that man-made climate change would be a major factor here though. And... we might survive. We have before.
