Won't host Oscars after furor over homophobic tweets

The tweets, between 2009 and 2011, included derogatory language referring to gay people and made disparaging comments about sexuality. Some of the tweets have since been deleted.

One of the tweets from 2011, that has since been deleted, said "Yo if my son comes home & try's 2 play with my daughters doll house I'm going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice 'stop that's gay'."

"I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's," Hart, who is currently performing in Sydney, Australia, said via Twitter. "This is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past. I'm sorry that I hurt people... I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again."

Hart announced on his official Instagram page that he would host the Academy Awards for the first time in the coming year.

I swear some folks have no life and have all the time in the world to find any incriminating evidence from a decade or so ago to bring up.

Sorry he stepped down. He would have been great.

Shouldn't have had the job in the first place. Hosting awards shows is for has-beens who can't put up blockbusters anymore.

Seems like Hart gets support on most forums. Don't read any LibTard sites though. Imdb news comments are all supportive.

His comments were grotesque and destructive. Anyone read how many young gay people turn to suicide? 2011 is NOT
that long ago, and he seems extremely insincere in his so-called remorse.

One of the top films of this year's Oscars will definitely be "Boy Erased", about a couple who try to "erase" their
son's sexuality. And we're supposed to have a homophobic Oscar host??

I'm sure he regrets his tweets and comments, but ONLY because it cost him his hosting the Oscars, NOT because he
gives a rat's ass about people who are different from him.

Good riddance.

2011 was a different era, there was virtually no social media presence back then, not like there is today. Like you said, it wasn't even that long ago, which is the scary thing. 2013 was when outrage culture started to take off, I remember it clear as day, the end of Breaking Bad, Robin Thicke Miley Cyrus at the VMA's. Those two things wouldn't be acceptable in todays climate, the mistreatment and negative depiction of women in Breaking Bad would've got the show canned after one season or a few episodes if it were released in 2018. That's where we are now.

James Gunn also made similar "jokes" around the same as Hart's, why does nobody remember 2011? Every passing day becomes a reflection of the times. Remember movies like 'The Hangover' and R-rated Seth Rogen movies with all his male chivalrous friends smoking drugs? Remember the dialogue, things like "you're gay!" being used in a comedic sense would never, ever fly today. What Hart said in 2011 wasn't out of the ordinary, or even particularly offensive.

Nobody cared back then, but only now suddenly when it's appropriate to do so. I think it's hypocritical, from experience being a victim of bullying/teasing in school meant nothing until the social media crowd came into full effect. A teacher might tell off a misbehaved student, but now there are more serious consequences of bullying. Anything that happened before 2013 is no longer socially acceptable in 2018 so I don't understand why the media is punishing people for outdated attitudes.

In the privacy of his home Hart is probably saying something like, "oh no, it couldn't be a funny joke that brought me down. It had to be a stupid non funny shot from the hip quip that died on impact."

The left eats itself.

Let's look at it another way, kids. If a white comic stated, "Wow, if my son came home with black girlfriend, I'd woop
his ass!", wouldn't we expect him to step down, especially if he didn't offer any kind of sincere apology?

I'm the first to admit the Oscars are a phony joke, made up of self-serving, arrogant elite stars. But Hart's comments
were offensive to Republican, Democrats, gays, straights, blacks, white, and everyone else.

The "left" aren't the only people who are happy this clown isn't hosting. He was offensive to EVERYONE.

Earlier you're touting how Hollyweird elites are propping up some lbgt-z themed film at the Oscars as they now make a point of doing every year then go on to admit how much of a phony, elitist joke the Oscars are. Make up your mind. Also if we're talking arrogance & entitlement it should probably be mentioned that projecting your being offended as a shared sentiment of EVERYONE kind of fits the bill.

Make up my mind?? You're an idiot. Just because I think the Oscars are phony, and filled with arrogant stars,
doesn't mean I support a jerk who made VICIOUS comments not only about gay people, but about how a father
would react if his son were gay.

TEN years ago, this wouldn't have been acceptable; so why should it be NOW???

I don't think this guy should have his whole career ruined, and I do believe in forgiveness. But he does NOT
deserve to host the Oscars, plain and simple.

Black straight men have a HUGE issue with homosexuality, and since it's part of the culture of how they're raised,
we need to keep educating them, and everyone, on the damage such comments make.

I'm sure Hart would argue that we shouldn't tolerate racism. So WHY should his toxic comments, and glib
response save his ass in this instance??

I'm glad he's out, although I never really watch this ego-fest of a show anyway.

Name calling already? Come on. Nobody said you have to support anyone. I was just pointing out that you seemed to have conflicting sentiments about Oscars. You seem to like that the Oscars make a point of consistently pushing lbgt-z media but still admit that it's a phony elitist joke which I totally agree with btw.

Most people in the world don't support the lifestyle so why are you singling out straight black men? White lbgt seem to love shaming straight black men and at the same time generally downplay the extreme elitism & white privilege that drives the lbgt-z agenda.

I don't know that much about Hart, not particularly a fan but i'd imagine he understands racism to be the unique & destructive beast that it is. One of the main reasons why I could care less about the Oscars.

Ok so you go down to Detroit's Eastside with your "it's ok to be gay" pamphlets and tell them folks they need to be educated and see where it gets you

That Sucks He Would've Been Great

Well, nobody wants to host the Oscar's anyway, it's a crappy job and everyone who does it gets heavily criticized.

But he got a big burst of publicity for accepting the gig and quitting, so he's probably gotten more out of it than the average host.

CNN Op-ed:
Here is what comedians who get in trouble need to understand: You can't "punch down." Skinny people cannot crack jokes about overweight people. Rich people cannot mock poor people. White comedians cannot make black people the butt of their jokes. Straight men cannot joke about assaulting gay men. And if anyone dares go down this lane, the joke must be so hilarious that even the community who is being insulted will laugh out loud. There are very few comedians who have that gift.

Cringe. Must suck for comedians if there was an obese, poor, black man who happens to be gay in the audience. Let me guess, do blacks get a pass if they make fun of whites? What about everything opposite of what the editor listed? Clay Cane picked these specific topics that can't be talked about by comedians. No wonder comedians on late night shows suck. Just look at the ones that appear on the Colbert show.

I find it interesting that there is not ONE person who agrees with me, which makes it all the more important that Hart
is out.

I don't like overly PC stuff either, but his bit about NOT supporting a gay child, and then physically punishing him if
he came out is disgusting and destructive. Had he'd apologize years ago, and was sincere, I would've been among
the number of people to support his hosting. But his comments were disgusting, and his "apology" insincere.

I believe he should be forgiven, and we should move on, and let this man continue his art. But he should NOT be
hosting the Oscars. A message needs to be sent. Period.

Nobody agrees with SJW's thats why Trump is President. Tell your party to start working towards establishing a living wage instead of punishing Kevin Hart for not wanting his son to play Barbie and you might win an election again

Trump's approval has been in the dirt since he took office. He hasn't won anyone over. He just had the luck of going against someone who lacked charisma such as Hillary, and he also lucked out by her not setting foot in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania or Michigan when they were begging for a candidate to give them attention. And on top of it, she got caught screwing over Bernie. That's how Trump won.

Blaming it on SJWs is just lying to yourself to make you feel better for hating a group of people that nobody really cares or thinks about as much as you do.

Bernie would have gotten destroyed too. People hate SJW's so much they will elect other people they hate just to see SJW's cry

You're basing your assumptions on what you want to be true, rather than any data. In January of 2016, Hillary polled nationally at 51% versus 49% for Donald Trump. That's nearly the percentage of votes she got in the election. It didn't matter because the statistical ties in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan went to Trump. Everywhere else, Hillary won what she was expected to win.

In 2016, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan were not looking for an anti-SJW. They were looking for a populist. Bernie polled around 55% to Trump's 45%. There's no conceivable way Trump would have won those statistical ties in those three states. Trump would've been slaughtered.

Additionally, SJWs are not the reason why Kevin Hart was kicked from the Oscars. It's not the reason for Roseanne getting kicked from ABC, James Gunn getting kicked from Disney, or Alex Jones getting kicked from Youtube/Facebook/Twitter. It's all about capitalists protecting their bottom line. They don't protect it by catering to college kids with blue hair. But you need someone to blame, just like all Trumpsters do which is why the caravans are filled with nothing but "invaders."

I agree with you.

What Hart said about beating his child was disgusting. I have been watching and blogging about the Oscars for years. Hart does not have any place to be hosting an event he knows NOTHING about. He's a homophobic jerk, not funny, and uses the "loud stereotypical" black man for his routine; similar to Tiffany Haddish. No more Eddie Murphy's or Monique's. Everything now is a simple stereotype.

Back to the Oscars, please bring back hosts like Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg- you know- ACTORS who (like Goldberg) have WON Oscars?

Many academy members are gay or support gay rights. As they should. Film in general supports all walks of life. I wonder what Mr. Hart thinks About Moonlight winning best Picture in 2016. Ya know- the GAY film featuring BLACK MEN together. That sorta just happened.

You cannot host the Oscars and diss gay people. That's like hosting a Super Bowl Party but you know nothing about the game.

Hart should do Roseanne and just leave the country.

He should be able to make jokes about anything he wants. Comedians used to do that once upon a time, but SJWs like you have to be offended about everything. It's very easy: if you don't like something, turn it off and ignore it.
