I like both Newton and Harris both---yeah, Newton gets the better roles, but, to me, she still dosen't get hyped up to be the next big thing like these white actresses do (even though she a damn good actress who's not afraid to tackle difficult roles, like the disturbed character in COLORED GIRLS, for example) and it's quite telling that most of her best roles have been in American films, not British films (I liked her role in ROCK 'N ROLLA,though). Sure, Newton is biracial, but so what---she's still seen as a BLACK woman period, because that's what she is, and she's never claimed to be anything else, plus she's been around longer than Harris, who is just now coming into her own as a name. I could name a few biracial actresses I like (Salli Richardson, Victoria Rowell,Rae Dawn Chong) who have been around even longer and aren't getting anywhere the amount of good roles that they used to get back in the day. Point being that even biracial actresses don't automatically get all the good roles.
Like I said, I like both actresses, and liking one dosen't automatically mean the other has to be cancelled out--there's room enough for both of them! And, yeah, Hollywood has NEVER given a damn about the black female audience---we're too small and unimportant to them and always have been, so I ain't studying them anyway. And why shouldn't she complain about racism if it still exists? I sure as hell would!
