Best actor??? I have to ask this...

I had heard alot about this guy. So I decided to watch few movies with him. And sure I was impressed by him. He is very good actor. But why would some call him "the best working actor" the greatest in our time. It seems to me he has done mostly ONE genre. And that is action movies. I don´t think I ever seen him in more drama like movies. That requires alot more depth/feelings. And has he ever done a movie where he for instance cry? Or show some emotional vulnerability. Im NOT saying that every great actor has to cry lol

I know he did wuthering heights. But aside from that its been all action movies. Or can anyone recommend any more drama like ones. If I missed any.

But great actor should be able to be broad, and play alot of different genres. Just NOT action. I would say in that genre alone. He is prob the greatest one working right now. But im not sure I agree in saying he is THE greatest actor working. In action genre alone, np but he needs to play more different genres IMO. For more credibility the way I see it.

Perhaps it would help if I knew which films you've already seen.
Have you seen Locke? Or Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy? Bronson? Warrior? How about Stuart: A Life Backwards (tv movie)?
These movies are good examples of Tom Hardy showing the range you are referring to.

Thanks alot for those. I will def. check it out!

If you can get a hold of The Take which was a U.K. Miniseries, while he plays a pretty eccentric character in that I thought his performance was incredible definitely displays emotional vulnerability, also The Drop. His ability to display his characters thoughts through just staring in that movie was awesome to watch.

Very versatile actor, I just think action films want him more cause he can play a good tough guy, but he is certainly capable of far more

Thanks to you too. Its nice when ppl can actually keep it on nice level on here. Because you guys understood what I meant. It wasn´t to say that I don´t think Tom Hardy isn´t good actor.

He is clearly very gifted. Being able to say so much with so little effort. That alone is very hard. I was just looking for little different genres. Now I got some more movies to check out!

Stuart will break your heart

He cries in Wuthering Heights, Warrior, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and Locke, off the top of my head.

Also Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Locke, The Drop, and Legend are not what I would consider action movies. I wouldn't consider Bronson an action movie.

Actually, I'm not really sure how many movies Hardy has done that I would consider pure "action movies" apart from Mad Max: Fury Road and I guess The Dark Knight Rises. He's not really someone I would think of as an "action movie star".

It doesn't matter if it's one genre. It's all about what you bring to the part. For example, in The Revenant. Hardy made an effective and surprisingly even entertaining villain, while still managing to find depth within the motivations of his character. And in Legend he showed major range for both of his characters. Although it was an action/crime film.

But, he gave a very different performance in Locke.
