He's been reinstated as the GotG Vol.3 director!

I'm honestly super happy about this. I'm not someone who thinks he's actually a pedophile, he just made bad jokes in really poor taste, but that was years ago. I'm glad they got him back because Vol. 3 just wouldn't have been the same without him. The first two Guardians of the Galaxy films are a couple of the best in the MCU. I hope after this Marvel and him will still work together on future films because he's one of the better directors in the MCU.

The "to own the libs" effect is in full force here.

Drac's post came across like "Re-hiring James Gunn to own the repubs". Should Gunn have been fired in the first place? Probably not, and I doubt he was to begin with. Kevin Harts and Roseanne Barr's tweets paled in comparison to his, even if they were "jokes".

Completely agreed. I've been hearing reports that they decided months ago they were going to rehire him because of how well he handled the situation overall.
I heard they were never actually avidly looking for a replacement which doesn't actually surprise me considering they were still planning on using his script.
Not only that, but it didn't seem like anyone else wanted to take the project on because it's sort of Gunns baby.

Nice! When I first read of the basic premise and background of GotG years ago, I shook my head and thought: "That's so stupid. A talking raccoon in a world of superheroes?!"

Gunn himself revealed in interviews that he even he had doubts about how to make a "Loony Tunes" character work in the world of Ironman, Captain American and co. Despite that, he did a fantastic job and I became a fan. Good to see him back.

But...

... it's still weird to think that, in theory, we could have Jon Bernthal's hard-ass Punisher fighting alongside Bradley Cooper's Rocket. I hope we never see that...

As much as it would be cool for the Marvel show characters to be in the movies alongside these other heroes we love so much, I was completely fine with them being seperate entities to be honest. I wouldn't want them toned down just to fit with the PG-13 rating of the films.

I agree which is why I'm glum over the idea of these characters exiting Netflix.

I'm worried that the current actors and stories will be dumped in favour of a complete re-boot when we see them again. It might be that contractually Disney/Marvel won't be allowed to use elements/stories of the previous series.

I'd also rather that they stay separate from the movie characters and movie plots for the reasons we both agree on. Their series are more about drama than over-the-top cosmic soap opera and I like it that way.

I'd be okay with certain movie characters stepping into their world... for example, Black Widow since she's not really a super-powered being, just a highly trained field agent.

He's the only one capable of doing Vol 3 justice..

I wonder if all the support he got helped this along..
Everyone seemed to stand behind him....and not budge an inch.
