One observation that I recently read suggests that Drew Barrymore is somebody who is in love with the concept or idea of love. In effect, she's in love with the IDEA of marriage, commitment, true love, soul mates, etc. But then when the marriage happens, and the fantasy becomes reality, it makes her feel very claustrophobic. And suddenly, all she wants to do is get out of the box she is trapped in. She can't handle the reality of that magnitude of commitment to put it in another way.

I can sympathize with that more than I wish I could.

Drew Barrymore was forced to grow up way too early, so Green's eternally juvenile mindset might have seemed novel and appealing to her. She has said that her twenties were basically her time to be a kid and have fun, because when she was actually a child, her acting roles, parental neglect and substance abuse problems meant that she had to take on a lot of responsibility at an early age. (Honestly its kind of a miracle that she has turned out as functional and mature as she is.) She was dating Green as part of her delayed adolescence. (If you want proof of what an incredible actress she is, watch Intolerable Differences, where Drew's eleven year old character gets emancipated from her parents. Her maturity at such a young age is incredible - and kind of heartbreaking.)

Although this actor knew this actress bride was a wild child, he thought his easygoing demeanor could tame her. Whenever they went out, she would get loaded and dance on tables, and he would sip soda and watch from across the room. All the waitresses loved him--he was a great tipper--but we were just waiting for him to explode. Well, one night, she went too far: She started making out with another woman. When he tried to get her to leave, she flung her arm out and accidentally knocked him down. He got up and slugged her in the face, and a major brawl ensued. The whole staff got involved. Needless to say, they're no longer together.

In his book "Hollywood Causes Cancer" Tom Green states that on their Honeymoon in the Carribbean they fought constantly. They played scrabble one night and she used the word "Barrymore" and won and that fought until she proved it was legit word. After the Honeymoon they were shooting movies away from each other, when Drew came up with the idea for her to go on Christmas vacation(this is when Hollywood shuts down a lot of their productions) with her friends to Hawaii WITHOUT TOM, he said no way and he ended up spending Christmas vacation in his parents house in Canada, his old bedroom. They weren't married for even a year, it cost Tom millions and he never really recovered completely.

Oh yeah, one of the warning signs was that Courtney Love was the bridesmaid at their wedding. Yes, I typed that correctly. Courtney Love is Drew's best friend!
