Why did he direct Pineapple Express?

Does not make any sense. Anyone could have made this movie. Although mildly entertaining, it was not what I expected from Green.

Why not? He probably needed the money to fund other projetcs.Anyways, Danny McBride suggested David since they're close friends.

For a stoner comedy/action movie, it was pretty well directed. I don't think it would have the same impact if judd apatow directed it, or if anyone of those guys did.

Because he wanted to expand his boundaries and he was sick of doing downbeat dramas. He says he wants to direct a big-budget action movie next. Pineapple Express had the DGG touch.

well said. i'm continually bemused with all the "what the hell?" and "why would he direct Pineapple Express or Eastbound and down?" I'm always impressed when someone can pull a 180 from their comfort zone and put out something great.

I thought it was a terrible, shapeless mess of a film. Whatever he did do as director, it resulted in a lousy movie.

I thought it was a hilarious, brilliant film. What he did as a director resulted in beautiful moments amid laugh out loud comedy.
