Performance in 'This Is England'

Im trying to recall a better performance from an English actor in the last 10 years and Im really struggling...

Anyone else rate his performance on par (if not better) than Begbie (Trainspotting) and Don Logan (Sexy Beast) in terms of psycho hard-man?

reply

It's a superb performance by an actor who will soon get the attention he deserves.

I think Damian Lewis in Keane is an equally fantastic performance and Gary Oldman as Stansfield is another great British acting tour de force.

As for Ben Kingsly hamming it up in Sexy Beast - that is the most overated role of his career. I heard from so many people how great he was but i found it very obvious.

Combo, like Don was a proper psychopath, I wonder what happened to his character after he so badly assaulted Milky? Do you think he just went back to prison? Or do you think he got away with it

It's left up to interpretation but i think he went away for a loooong time.

You probably want to put a spoiler tag on the thread now.

I would also put Paddy Considine's performance in Dead Man's Shoes up there aswell

reply

as well as Paddy Considine's performance in Dead Man's Shoes i'd say Considine's performance in A Room For Romeo Brass is a quite spectacular.

not forgetting the two powerhouse performances from Ray Winstone and Charlie Creed Miles in Nil by Mouth.

Agree 100%. Hope he gets the recognition his performance deserves - from Bafta, and the Academy etc.

You have to go back to 1982, Tim Roth, "Made In Britain"
