What happened to her engagement?

I could have sworn a year or two ago it was announced on E! And other entertainment news outlets that Kat was engaged to be married. I don't remember to whom. Also, I thought she was leaving Vampire Diaries last season. Did she stay because she knew that the execs decided to end the series this coming season and made it worth her while?
