What Quitting That 70's Show did to his career

Do you think quitting the show early hurt his career since he has only been in one substantial film after he departed?

I wish he would have stayed for the 8th season, but what I think really did him no good was Spider-man 3. The way they handled his character and the whole movie in general seems to have hurt him, although his new 2 projects look a bit promising.

Yes but if you were Topher and being offered to be in a huge blockbuster movie as one of your favourite villains in a franchise that was doing really well, then you would take it also. He may have thought the movie might have turned out better than it did because Sam Raimi was directing, as gutted as I was about him not coming back for the last season, I still really liked him as Eddie Brock Jr he was just very underused as you said. But maybe his career will begin to pick up momentum again, Ashton Kutcher's was doing well for a while and seemed to be drifting for a while until he did What Happens In Vegas. So maybe it's just a matter of time before Topher begins to get big movies again because personally I think he's very talented, but so far out of the cast it looks like Mila Kunis is doing better than everyone of them.

He could have never known that Spiderman 3 would be the Batman Forever of the serie. I thought he did a good job as Venom, Venom just never had enough screentime. Too many villains overkilled the movie. I think he was right to stop with That 70's Show, when he stopped he couldn't have known how long it would continue and the show could quickly die off so quitting when the show's (and his own) star was still high was a smart move.

Besides he is supposed to play in the new Predator movie so maybe that could give him the boost he deserves.

The thing is he has admitted for a long time that he kinda fell into this and didn't think it was going to go this far. I don't think leaving T7S hurt his career because t7s shipwrecked in season 8 and where are all those guys now? I don't think Topher's goal was to be an actor or at least not a huge celebrity (which he isn't, he's known but not a huge star) he just did some work and more opportunities fell into his lap and he took some of them. Maybe later on he will do more but maybe he likes it at a slower pace. *shrugs*

Ronette 2 - If Spider-man 3 was Batman Forever - as you said - then he was Harvey Dent.

Completely hammy and ridiculous as Eddie Brock. Sure the writing was terrible but his acting didn't sell it. I didn't buy that losing his job and girl would turn him into a killer and there was nothing to indicate he was psychopathic. He just played him as an annoying, cocky twat.

"PSYCHOS do not EXPLODE when sunlight hits them, I dont give a fu*k how crazy they are!"

I think it did hurt his career to be honest, think about it, he left because he got a couple movies before the show ended (or before he left) win a date with tad hamilton, which i havnt seen but im pretty sure did decent in the box office, and in good company, which i have seen and thought was he was really good in it...after he left he has done nothing good other than spiderman3, which like other posters said, wasnt even a huge role...

and to the poster who says that mila is the only one getting roles..thats not true....wilmer is gettin roles, days of wrath which looks great, few others, including chips...ashton has done a decent amount of work since the show, laura (donna) was on another series which didnt last, but, she was probably the worst of the actors, i loved her as donna, but her acting really wasnt that great...and danny masterson, whos the oldest and whos acted the longest has never had any big roles, great in that 70s show, but hes jut not a big actor...so seeing him blow up after the show ended was never going to happen....

and I dont think it was a right move because the show went to crap in season 8...it went to crap because eric and kelso were gone...and randy came along...if they would have stayed on, then the season would have been just as good as the seventh...i personally think they should have just ended it after 7...but thats beside the point..

Allow myself to introduce...myself.
