Ryan's piano skills in La La Land
Did he learn to play the piano just for this film? Cause if he did, what an amazing feat. He was phenomenal.

shareYes he trained very long and hard for it, I read an interview where John Legend couldn't believe how quickly Ryan was picking it up
shareAs someone who took piano lessons throughout my childhood (and only comes out as the worst of amateurs), I find it unbelievable that he attained this degree of professionalism in less than a year! Even if he had the best teachers in the world and he practiced the rumored 4 hours a day... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
shareI was surprised when I heard that he learned to play the piano for this part because he has a band called Dead Man's Bones and he plays the piano in few of their songs (for example you can see it in the live performance of the song In the room where you sleep). So I think he had some prior experience to work from but he probably had to perfect his piano skills
shareYeah, I like dead mans bones. Very interesting style. He's musically gifted. I read an article where he learned to play the ukelin in a couple days for fun by watching YouTube videos and then in Blue Valentine he was playing off set and the director said we have to get you playing in the movie somehow.. so they did and it was a wonderful scene.
shareI love their music too it's very unique, I wish they made more songs, but unfortunately I don't think that will happen any time soon :(
And I agree that was my favorite scene in the movie, I even started listening to it afterwards
He was exceptional, wonderful actor
