Safe To Say Now One of the biggest Career Turn Downs of all time?

JGL Turned the lead role in Guardians Of The Galaxy(Star Lord) in 2013 instead choosing The Lead In Sin City 2....

Fast forward to Now....

JGL's career has flat-lined....Meanwhile Chris Pratt, The Person who instead Took the Role of GOTG(Star Lord) is now Literally One of The Biggest A List Actors In Hollywood....

Basically JGL turned The Role of Star-Lord in GOTG Which we now know is A FULL on Franchise With At least 5 Films(3 GOTG films and at least 2 Avengers movies)

It Also directly Lead to Pratt Getting 15 Million + pay days from Passengers and Now Headlining 2 Jurassic World Franchises...

So far, The 2 GOTG films made 770 M and 870 M and Avengers IW Made 2 Billion.....Pathetically Sin City 2 was a MONSTER Flops making less than 20 M

IMO Based on Just how insanely successful The GOTG films have been, How they directly lead to another even bigger Franchise in The Avengers where Pratt is now getting at least 5 major Pay days from 5 Blockbusters, How Pratt Instantly Over night became an A Lister SOLELY due to the Part JGL turned down and How Sin City 2 turned out to be a Trainwreck....and finally how Pratt Is literally now one of the most sought after and highest paid Actors in Hollywood being offered Franchise after Franchise and in the running for almost every Major Role, While JGL career is just non exisent right now, getting no major offers, made a few smaller movies that ALL Bombed....

All in All....I think its now time we can say....JGL turning down the role of Star-Lord was one of the worst career moves in Hollywood history....Its not an exaggeration to say that decision could cost him over 100 Million dollars, at least 3 Franchise Leading Roles, Basically Hes literally watching Chris Pratt have his career....

Thoughts

reply

Possibly but I come from the mindset of "if something is truly meant for you, you'll get it". I don't think JGL wants to be a movie star in a huge franchise anyway.

reply

What a coincidence that Levitt played a character named Chris Pratt in 2007's The Lookout.

reply

It's a difficult business. I never really thought of him as an A lister though. Maybe its just me, not paying close enough attention.

I wouldn't count JGL out yet, anyway. Careers go through lulls only for someone to land a key role and come roaring back. Look at Winona Ryder in Stranger Things.

reply

I never saw him as an A-lister either. He doesn't seem like he longs to be one.

reply

Chris Pratt's career isn't really that amazing

He is in the same boat as Robert Downey Jr. he's going to make more money than he can ever spend because he's an Avenger. But outside of that franchise what does he have? Nobody liked The Magnificent Seven. Nobody liked Passengers. Nobody likes the new Jurassic Park movies

Big whoop. I doubt JGL cares. He's been acting since he was a little kid. I doubt he regrets not being a part of that movie-industry ruining franchise

reply

what does he have? Nobody liked The Magnificent Seven. Nobody liked Passengers. Nobody likes the new Jurassic Park movies

^^^

Literally Laughed out Loud

You ask what does he have... then list 4 A-List Starring Roles that Netted Him Massive Paydays

lol Ya

GOTG 1
GOTG 2
Avengers IW
The Magnificent Seven
Passengers
Jurassic World 1
Jurassic World 2

GOTG3
Avengers 4
Jurassic World 3

Literally near 100 Million dollars worth of Salary for these roles, A List Status, Leading Man in at least 2 Franchises....oh shucks what does he have....

look its clear This post bothered you ...but dear god at least be realistic, If you hate Chris Pratt or Love JGL and this post bothers you fine, But at least dont deny the obvious....dont pretend Pratt's career INSANE right now ....

Theres no telling what JGL's mindset is, maybe your right, maybe he doesnt care, Who knows....Or Maybe hes sitting back looking at his career right now regretting ever day turning down An all time Great Role that Could have Lead to him Being An A List Superstar in the running for All the Biggest and Hottest roles....Maybe hes happy making small flops like The Walk and Premium Rush, Or Maybe Hes sitting at home angry and jealous that hes not Headlining GOTG and Avengers movies, Not Headlining Billion dollar Franchise films like JW 1 and 2....We dont know

But the one thing we do know is, You are intentionally Underselling Pratt's Career , JGL's mindset may be up for debate given that its Impossible to know, but you trying to embarrassingly come up with a way how Pratts career isnt Impressive Is truly one of the biggest FAILS I've ever seen!

anyways IMO its a shame JGL turned the role, because He was heading in The Right direction...He Just made IMO the best Movie of his career in Looper , Just had a Good role in The Dark Knight Rises....He was HOT....

and for some reason He just made some awful, career altering choices, I think if I remember he turned down BOTH the Lead in GOTG and Godzilla at the same time and instead picked Sin City 2

Now I LOVED Sin City 1.....but I got to believe JGL at least got to look at the script for GOTG and Sin City 2 before making the decision and I just find it beyond comprehension that He PICKED Sin City 2 over GOTG.....Sin City 2 truly was one of the worst sequels ever made...

Hell Even The Script for Godzilla had to be better than Sin City 2s script....

anyways, kinda went off on a rant there...point is...It seems your making excuses for JGL and intentionally underselling Pratt...

all things considered, I just dont see how you could not think JGL turning down The Star Lord role isnt one of the biggest mistake in Hollywood history...

reply

No, I just think that you're equating money with success. Literally the only thing you talk about is how much money Pratt is making. I like Pratt, I love Parks and Rec and loved GotG 1.

But I just don't think his career is that enviable. Aside from the Avengers movies he's mainly starred in critical flops. Jurassic World 1 has a good RT score, but most people I've talked to thought it was boring and unoriginal.

Sure, he's going to be filthy rich. But I doubt JGL is hurting for money anyway. I just think it's kind of a dumb thread. Believe it or not, it's not every single actor's dream to be super rich and famous and star in a bunch of soulless fluff. Edward Norton chose to walk away from part as Bruce Banner/Hulk. He left millions of dollars on the table because he has different career goals.

reply

Edward Norton is just difficult to work with. Nobody wants him now.

reply

What does this have to do with anything?

reply

The previous poster I replied to mentioned Edward Norton.

reply

I don't see it but I apologize. I know Norton has been click bait at the bottom of these pages, and I indeed clicked. I guess he can't help himself in wanting to have some creative control over his roles, to the point where he alienates important people. Oh well. Always liked Ed.

reply

I have no interest in Chris Pratt. I don't recall seeing him in anything that interests me. But JGL has. He's not a dreamboat for looks, and I suppose Pratt is, so do you think his passing on Guardians has doomed him to mediocrity? Hey, go make friends with millionaires if you call that success. I might prefer to hang out with Artists.

reply

I liked magnificent 7 lol

reply

I only saw part of it. It was ok, I guess. Don't think it was terrible, but it was definitely a critical flop. Looking at this thread now, after 8 months, and billbrown's comment looks even more stupid

I get that he is obsessed with the revenue-side of movies, but his attempt to describe what a veteran, successful, good-looking and well-liked actor must be feeling (maybe sitting at home angry and jealous, LMAO). If working with directors like Zemeckis, Oliver Stone, Nolan, Spielberg, makes you feel like a failure, then you have to be a sociopathically-ambitious shit excuse for a person

Eric Stoltz lost the role of Marty McFly in Back to the Future, a WAY more iconic role than GotG. And Stoltz is way less of a star than JGL. Yet if you read Stoltz's reflections on losing the role, he's not angry or bitter. He dealt with the situation with humor and grace, like a good person would

JGL has had a better career than 99% of actors on the planet (read up on the lives of your average aspiring actor. Chances are they live off Welfare). If JGL was mad that he ended up being only upper-middle class instead of being private-island rich, we would be reading stories of him firing his agents, taking way more action roles, begging whatever trendy new director popped up for roles, etc.

And I also was not undercutting Chris Pratt. He has a great career. Obviously, he's guaranteed to be retarded rich. Between Parks&Rec residuals and all the big event movies, he probs uses $100 bills as paper towels

He is also a likable, funny, talented, and charismatic. Plus he's handsome AF and got to plow the gorgeous Anna Faris for many years. Nobody is doubting his success

BUT, not every actor wants to be the next Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Schwarzenneger, Ben Affleck, Jackie Chan, etc.

I don't think an actor who chose roles in films like Mysterious Skin, Brick, The Lookout, and Hesher is primarily concerned with becoming a big commercial movie star

reply

I like Amy Poehler (but before her I liked Tina Fey for 30 Rock) but I've never watched P&R except maybe the pilot episode not that long ago. I wish I had a reliable source for P&R A2Z. I didn't even know Pratt was in it.
As far as Anna Faris goes, I wouldn't mind plowing her TV Mom, even if she is taller than me.
And don't forget that tightrope movie. That was an unusual film. And wasn't he in Looper with Bruce Willis? Can't get much bigger than Bruce Willis.

reply

Parks & Rec is great. Usually, I avoid these very mainstream "for everybody" type sitcoms like The office (US version) and things like that, but I gave Parks & Rec a chance and I ended up loving it

Yes, Pratt is in it. His character, Andy Dwyer is hilariously stupid. And his chemistry with Aubrey Plaza is the best part of the show, IMO. Ron Swanson is also a good character. I haven't seen it all that recently, so I cannot , off the top of my head, recommend the best places to start, but give me some time and I'll find a good intro for you

If by the tightrope movie you mean The Walk, about the life of Philippe Petit, the guy who was the subject of the beautiful documentary Man on Wire, then I agree. It is an incredible story and a great character to be able to play. It takes an unfathomably extreme personality to do what that guy did

And yes, Looper was good and a bit out-there. And yeah, being the main character in a movie that also includes Bruce Willis is a big accomplishment. And he worked with other talents like Jeff Daniels, Paul Dano and Emily Blunt in that movie

So to say that his career is, in any way, a failure is just downright stupid

reply

Btw, JGL actually played a character called Chris Pratt in the movie The Lookout in 2007. Funny coincidence. Maybe bill is right after all. He wants to be like Chris Pratt so bad that he took a role with his name (nevermind that it came out way before Pratt was famous)

reply

Nobody liked The Magnificent Seven.

Says who? I liked it just fine and it was leagues better than the original (although the original's score reigns supreme). It may not have been great like "Django Unchained," but it was a quality modern Western.

reply

Personally, I think Pratt is very bland. Some people may find him good-looking, and I don't gravitate toward super-hero movies. I think Chris Pine is more interesting (there's a joke about people getting them confused), but to me, when I see JGL, I'm interested in what this project is. A really good movie he had a critical part in - obviously - was Inception.
Not sure I would have wanted to see Pratt in that role. Pratt just seems bland to me, and isn't GOTG an animated film? What's so hard about acting in that? People only want to hear Pratt's voice because they know what he looks like.
Although maybe he does a particularly good job in that role, idk.

reply

^^^

I actually agree....

Pratt Is IMO Great In certain roles but Near awful in Others....

A really good movie he had a critical part in - obviously - was Inception

^^^^

Fantastic Movie and JGL was very good in It

and isn't GOTG an animated film? What's so hard about acting in that?

^^^

No its a Comic Book Movie made by Marvel Studios....This is one movie to watch if you want to see Pratt at his best...He is absolutely Fantastic In This role and Is a Major reason why The Franchise Is one of the hottest and highest Grossing going right now....

He OWNS the role of Star Lord/Peter....

Unfortunately IMO He doesnt bring that same acting abilities to other roles as I thought he was Awful in The Magnificent Seven. and Passengers

reply

You're assuming that if JGL took that role that he would have been as popular as Pratt, but I don't see it. I like JGL more than Pratt and find him more capable of roles with wider range. Pratt plays the American boy next door archetype while JGL can play the low-key type to brooding desperate type.

reply

They are actors. They can be anyone.

reply

The two goofballs in the Sonic Ads are actors too, should we cast them in the same roles?

reply

Who?

reply

Do Marvel fanboys get hard-ons from telling everyone over and over again about what a "success" it is and reciting the BO statistics?

If I like something I don't care how much money it makes. This kind of stuff just reeks of insecurity since apparently you need other people to like anything you like so you can feel validated.

^^^

I can only speak for me personally

But yes I must admit I do personally get Great sanctification from talking about The MCUs box office Success and The DCEUs absolute failure

but, Its not because I'm a hardcore Marvel fan or DC hater...

I in fact Love BOTH equally .

But I've got a deep hatred for a certain PART of The DC fanbase...which makes me take great joy in their pain and misery...

I've been a regular on Forums like this for almost a decade now, Mainly on IMDB...

from to 2010 to 2013...I did not feel this way...I enjoyed talking and defending BOTH DC and Marvel Films, I no way tried to say anything bad about either brand..

But something happened in 2013 that simply Made me HATE a certain part of DC fans...

When DC/WB announced BvS in the summer of 2013 at comic con....This started the single Biggest and Worst Trolling rampage in The history of The internet where Hardcore DC fans truly engaged in behavior that Is Beyond all description....

simply put, DC fans had been so angry and Jealous at the success of The MCU films from 2008 to 2013, that When It was finally announced that WB was Making a Cinematic Universe with BvS...They Literally LOST their minds ...for the next 3 years they trolled every upcoming BIG movies board claiming BvS would slaughter that movie..They guaranteed Marvel Studios would be shut down by the end of 2016 , They Guaranteed BvS would out gross the Avengers and Then Justice League 1 and 2 would out gross Avatar...they Guaranteed Marvel Studios would never again be able to "Get" a good release date for any of The MCU films because WB would "Muscle" and Steal the Release date from Marvel Studios like they did with BvS and Civil War...

In 2014, Marvel Studios had an "Untitled MCU film" scheduled for May 6th 2016 release....WB decided they wanted that release date for BvS, as The first week of May is widely regarded as The Best release date of The year....WB then did something that at the time was quite RARE...and Put BvS on that release date directly against A MCU film...Obviously everyone immediately knew 1 would have to move as It would be Box office Suicide to open them both on The same date...But WB had absolute confidence Marvel Studio would have to move because They simply couldnt compete against a film with the first ever meeting of Batman and Superman...

again there are no words to describe what DC fans said and did for the next few months while trolling about this, DC fans were absolutely certain Marvel Studios would be forced to Move Release dates....for them this was going to be their FIRST "Win"...they guaranteed Marvel Studios would have no choice but to" tuck their tail between their legs and Run"...then came the Guarantees that this was the Beginning of The end of Marvel Studios, They Guarantees that this is how WB is going to KILL Marvel Studios and The MCU...WB will now Take all The Great Release dates and Force All of the MCU films to Move to bad release dates...This went on for about 3 months...for DC fans BvS getting The May 6th 2016 release date over an Untitled MCU film was EVERYTHING....

Then came Part 2 of this, WB putting BvS against an Untitled MCU film was actually only The 1st part of the story and of DC fans trolling....

at first, DC were certain Marvel Studios would "run" and BvS would have the May 6th 2016 release to itself.

but then Marvel Studios announced that "Untitled MCU film" was going to be "Civil War" with RDJ's IM involved and Marvel Studios 1000% doubled down They were keeping The May 6th 2016 release date ....

This started an entirely knew Trolling Era of absolutely Pathetic Behavior where DC fans guaranteed "Marvel Studios were Bluffing and would still be Forced to moved at the last minute"....But If Marvel Studios didnt move, Civil War would be Nothing but a "sacrificial Lamb for BvS"

reply

It was like a 3 stage Wave of Trolling for 3 years...

First wave was the announcement of BvS...

Second Wave was WB trying to steal the May 6th 2016 release date

and the third wave was The announcement of A Slate of DCEU films which DC fans guaranteed would Slaughter the MCU slate of films

There is truly no describing the Trolling DC fans did during this time, The claims they made and Behavior they showed...

It Made me HATE this particular part of The Fan base....

But THANKFULLY ...This particular fan base GOT The absolute MOST Perfect, deserved and Fitting END

as I said No fan base in History Trolled Like DC fans did With BvS and The DCEU films....and Fittingly No fan base in History GOT BURNT like DC fans did with BvS and the DCEU films...

Literally every single claim and guarantee they made Went down in burning flames....

BvS turned out to be The trainwrecks of all trainwrecks

Hilariously, WB were the ones that ended up "Tucking their tails between their legs and running" when They were forced to move BvS from The May 6th 2016 release.

Then Civil War ended up beating BvS in every possible way.....

The DCEU slate ended up being 4 out of 7 Awful films...that resulted in Mainly embarrassment and failure where 4 different BOSSES were Hired and fired, WB interfered in Post production of nearly every film trying to "Change and Lighten" tones.

and Hilariously The DCEU slate resulted in Nearly Everything failing and being recast and rebooted.....

Affleck out, New Batman
next Batman film is a complete reboot
Cavil out as Superman, WB focusing on Supergirl movies instead of Superman movies
Will Smith out as Deadshot
Suicide Squad 2 complete reboot
Leto out as Joker
Complete reboot and new Joker movie with New actor
Wonder Woman 2 intentionally set in The 80's to distance itself from The failed Justice League film and characters
Justice League franchise DEAD after 1 film after Flopping and Losing 60 Million+

Bottom Line...

for me personally...I enjoy rubbing The success of The MCU films and The absolute failure of the DCEU films in Hardcore DC fans faces ...

and I enjoy it because.....................They DESERVE IT

The behavior they showed during that 3 year stretch was beyond anything anyones ever seen...

I actually have seen every DCEU film in theaters...I really like MOS,WW and Aquaman....

There are 4 DC films in My top 10 favorite CBM's....I have Near complete sets of Justice League, Green Lantern, Brave and The Bold, The Flash and Great silver age runs of Batman,Detective Comics,Action comics and Superman

I love DC....

But I HATE Hardcore DC fans, or Specifically The DC fans that were responsible for The 2013 to March 25th 2016 Trolling rampage...

I think I will probably always take great JOY in Thier misery.....they truly deserve it

anyways thats my story....

reply

LMAO. Ok I completely disagree with you on JGL

But I have to admit you are very right on this topic. I was on imdb during those toxic years of BvS

After Man of Steel, the general populace was mixed about the movie, but it was not regarded as a total disaster. So the DC fans were slightly nicer. But then Zack Snyder announced that he was directing BvS and the tide turned. It was obvious after watching Man of Steel that this Cinematic Universe was not in the best of hands

It's ok to give him one film or franchise to direct, but are we really choosing as, DC's answer to Kevin Feige, a guy who's recent streak was only as good as Owls of Ga'Hoole, Sucker Punch, and Man of Steel?

And sure enough, the smart fans were proven right, and the general audience saw what was inevitably going to happen. A grimdark, edgy take on two classic characters meeting, with plenty of slo-mo, ugly color palettes, and violence portrayed in a way that only teenage boys think is cool. That is all Zack Snyder ever does. That's probably why Justice League is an incoherent mess. Joss Whedon and co. had to go back and cut out and replace a bunch of scenes that involved edginess and all the characters acting like they are either depressed or full of rage

So, anyway, yeah the DCEU started off its run as exactly the failure that it had been set up to be. Suicide Squad didn't help matters. And this just made the DCEU-fanatics even more zealous and aggressive. They were like political extremists becoming more radicalized out of anger that normal people were criticizing their beliefs

It got really weird, they basically became 4chaners. There are still some traces of them alive today. Justice League was sort of a near-extinction level event, where only a few individuals survived and are scattered throughout the planet. Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam didn't even really help, because that specific cult was certain that a grimdark aesthetic and Zack Snyder were the only right way to do things, and these latest movies do not fit in with that

If DC can continue it's little winning streak, then the next generation of DC fanboys should be considerably less toxic, more like the Fox X-Men fanboys (Curiously, I have never seen a Sony Spider Man fanboy)
