Would you consider Alejandro G Inarritu as a magnificent auteur?

I am curious as to what people think of him, would you consider him as being an auteur after some of his most successful films such as The Revenant, Birdman and Babel. Tell me if you agree or disagree, plus have points to your opinions and keep them friendly.

I've only seen two of his films (The Revenant and Birdman). Both very different in relation to micro features. I've noticed that 'Birdman' abused the long take, where as 'The Revenant' had more of an conventional style. Because of my lack of knowledge I cannot define whether he has an auteur status, it hasn't been apparent through the films I have viewed. That being said I do think he has great talent in directing films.

I have so far only seen 2 of his films at this point, I couldn't say I see a constant style. although its understandable he is a talented director. in actual fact, if I hadn't been told I wouldn't hace realised he directed both films. Birdman fely gimiky due to the continuous shot and lack of structured cinematography. the revenant has breath taking cinematography.

Jesus christ, you'd think more people on this board would have seen his pre-Birdman films... Anyway, as a long time fan of his since Amores Perros (which still is his best film by the way), Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu probably is my favorite director working today along with Martin Scorsese and automatically gets a "magnificent auteur" status for me. Simply put, there is such emotional authenticity to every one of his films that most movies nowadays can't hold a candle to.

I have mixed feelings on him. He's not the sole creator of his movies. He doesn't write all of his movies and I question how much of a part he plays in writing them when he does receive credit. He also works with a good cinematographer and the best one of this century so that leads me to also speculate as to how much of the visual imagery is him or his extremely talented crew.

It does say something about him, however, that he's able to bring such talented people together. His cast and crew list are powerhouses typically. He couldn't do that if he lacked the ability to inspire others.

I'm always interested to see what he does but I'm not on the boat with everyone that loves him.
