Died of alcoholism in 1995

He was a moody loner, I wonder what had him hating life so much.

reply

Maybe the fall of the Soviet Union did not live up to his expectations.

It just wasn't good enough for him, I guess.

reply

well his own mother shipped him off to some gay ballet school at 9 years old that couldnt have been good for his mental health

reply

He was born on Sakhalin Island at the far eastern end of the former Soviet Union and began studying dance at age 9 in the Riga State Ballet School. He later said his mother put him there to prevent his becoming "a hooligan". One of his classmates and friends at the school was Mikhail Baryshnikov.

YOUR PERSONAL TAKE ON THINGS IS DISTURBING...AS USUAL.🤨

reply

better your kid becomes some Russian gangster "hooligan" than some sad alcoholic sissy ballet boy who kills himself with the bottle...

reply

Well, he did get a role in Die Hard, so he is practically immortal now.

ps. I didn't know he was dead and so long time...

reply

yeah like the dude did pretty well for himself for being a ballet boy u cant dog on him that hard. he did accomplish a lot even with all those obstacles in his life. if anyone is to blame for his downfall it is his mother who turned him into a fruity tootie ballet boy. You can old dance ballet as a straight dude for so long before it damages your ego to the point to become mortally addicted to liquor and kill yourself with the bottle

reply

For real. Just look at Patrick Swayze.

reply

My understanding is that he committed suicide. Sad if true. Depression is a mother****er.

EDIT: just read that initial reports were suicide but later discounted. Strange how initial reports would say that. I wonder if he did commit suicide and the family or management got that changed somehow.

Smooooooth strokes... up and down.... paaaaaaiiiiint. Don't tickle... and don't smoke!

reply

I just watched Money pit last night. Good line.

I love that scene. He was really good in that film.

I never can paint a room without saying that in my bad Russian spy accent..

reply

He tried hard to speak English but his accent was quite strong.

reply

It was, but I think he was quite understandable (and my hearing sucks), and really, they could have had him read his lines phonetically if they needed to reduce the accent. To be honest, when watching some period dramas with my wife (English and Scottish), I have to put CC on my TV. I never missed a line from Godunov despite his accent.

I felt really bad when I read that he had died.

reply

Americans always struggle with fluent English in regional accents.

reply

I loved his accent. He was pretty entertaining in Die Hard as well as the Money Pit.

IIIIIIIIIIII Vwant BLOOD!!!!!!!

reply

I always thought he would have been a better Lestat than Tom Cruise.

reply

Ex-pat Russians have a hard time with adjustment (see A. Solzhenitsyn). Not to mention alcoholism. Sorry he could't get help (for whatever reason).
