If he's studying Theology and Philosophy he may have a different career path in mind.
GOT may have simply funded his education.
Good for him for pursuing his passion and I wish him well supporting himself in whatever career he chooses.
(It may well be that a hiatus is a good thing should he choose to return to acting as he is strongly identified with his character on GOT.)
