'Rudy'

I am loving the character of 'Rudy' in Misfits! I am so glad he joined the cast. I get a little fed up with other 'die-hard' Misfit fans who have slated him already and are moaning that Robert Sheehan should come back. They should give him a chance! He is awesome...and I'm sure that if these folks gave him a chance, they will like him/his character in time.

the man definitely has range

hard to blue screen act, and he really sells it

my only prob is understanding his accent

When he is required to actually act on the show I think he's great, and the guy is clearly a talented actor, but when he is just asked to show up and be the 'funny guy' though I think he's pretty terrible personally. Largely because I just don't think he has the right kind of timing and charisma to be that kind of guy convincingly on screen.

I just wish they'd write more to Gilgun's own acting strengths, of which there are many, rather than too often lazily trying to make him into some kind of Nathan 2.0, and have him saying the kinds of things that Nathan might say if he was still around. They need to write more to Gilgun/Rudy's own type of easygoing and laconic humour, rather than trying to force a Nathan-like type of humour upon him, which more often than not just doesn't work, and can come off to many as quite grating.

Just my take on things anyhow.

I like the way he plays the 2 rudys. I also like the way the nice rudy walks diffently.
I don't think he's as good as Robert Sheehan's character but he is a good replacement none the less. I think he can be quite funny at times.
Especially the STD episode.

If you've watched series four, you'll even get to see him try his hand at embodying a third Rudy personality, which he does just magnificently. It's extremely difficult to play dual characters like that and make them all appear to have their own personalities, complete with their own different mannerisms, but Joe pulls it off brilliantly every time. Can't believe they haven't given him a BAFTA for his work on Misfits.

He's even better this year - the best character in season 5 by far, really come into his own, and his acting impresses me every week. Loving him and Jess! There is serious potential there.
