Horror Europa

What an interesting documentary about European horror. Mark clearly loves his horror movies and it's hard not to get swept up into his enthusiasm. I like a lot of the giallo films and it was great to see him interview Dario Argento and Mario Bava's grandson.

It was excellent, wasn't it! I absolutely loved his three part doc on horror movies a few years back, and this was every bit as good, with the added bonus that a lot of the films were new to me.

I wonder if anyone could give me a list of the titles he mentioned? I want to watch them all now! I remember Daughters of Darkness and Diabolique, but forgoptten many of the others. Particularly interested in the Spanish ones. Thanks!

Haha. We're going to watch it again to get the names of the films! His three-part series was really interesting too. :)

Did you make a list in the end? I see that the Devil's Backbone is on iPlayer this week so looking forward to seeing that!

reply

I only listed the ones we haven't seen. The Devil's Backbone is excellent and I really hope you enjoy it!

Finally watched this yesterday and it is indeed really good!
It would have been so exciting if I could have seen it ten years ago, it is a very good introduction to quality European horror (not trash...) I enjoyed that so many of my favourite classic movies were featured and so naturally would attest that Gatiss knows his stuff. Nice to see the locations and I like how he interviews people ("Don't drink it, it's shampoo!"). He seems to be a likeable guy and I bet he'd be a lot of fun and interesting to talk to.

Met Mark when I saw The League of Gentlemen. He was really kind and a sweet person.
