Greatest second act ever

Bill Gates is a great entrepreneur, CEO and investor.
He is a pioneer and a visionary.
Which would already make him a great guy, but he could also be an asshole in real life, like Steve Jobs or Steve Ballmer (which are not the worst people either, but they have their big egomaniacal flaws).

Well, Bill Gates upped his game in the past 20 years with his humanitarian endeavour and effort to make the planet a better place. He has donated billions of his own hard earned money, not only that (any rich asshole can donate some writeoffs), he takes every chance to do something himself for the greater good by involving others (including head of states and governments).

His life after being the richest man in the world for many years has been more impressive than anything he (or anybody before him) has ever done before.

Getting a shitload of money is not as impressive as making the world a better place.

reply

Now he reminds me of Cliff Clavin from CHEERS.

reply

well said.

He also pressures other billionaires to do the same , instead of sitting on thier gold like dragons

The Gates - along with investor Warren Buffett - are behind the Giving Pledge, which calls on billionaires to commit to giving away the majority of their wealth to good causes.

I like how he occasionally lets out his passive-aggressive anger issues, like when he tells school kids the "nerds" will someday be in charge of everybody else. Real nice guy, that Bill.

reply

Well, isn't he correct about that?
Knowledge is power, and we usually put powerful people in charge.
Also, he is a nerd, do you expect him to tell them how to be a great athlete or a supermodel?

reply

Gates has doubled his wealth since he pledged to give away all his billions through his foundation. How does a guy make money by giving it away? He's a bulls**tter and scammer more likely.

reply

He NEVER pledged to give away ALL his billions through his foundation. Like, never.
But he DID give away more than 50 billions of his own personal money. I think that's quite a big donation, even if he made more money in the meanwhile.

How much did YOU make in the past 20 years? Give away 1/4 of that amount and see if you think it's a lot of your own money or not. And I bet it's slithgly less than 50 billions.

Have some corona

reply

He got all that money by making the world a better place with computers.

reply

I think Bill Gates is one of the great guys. Still doesn't mean I agree with the pricing of Microsoft products :-)
