Ugly, but Hot

I don't think he is good looking in the least. In fact, when I saw trailers of Castle way back when, (it was the first time I saw him in anything) I couldn't believe that a leading actor could be that physically unattractive!

But when I saw the show, I instantly understood his appeal. It's his personality, his acting talent, manner of talking, body language etc. These are the reasons for his undeniable charisma, inspite of his unsightly face.

Quite a few posters here have mentioned how handsome he is. To each his own. But does anybody else agree with my opinion?

No. But let me explain.

I first saw Nathan in 2 Guys and a Girl and thought he was so adorable as Johnny. Of course, like many others I was more into Ryan Reynolds at the time.

Then I saw Firefly (years after airing) and there was just something about the way he portrayed Mal. Plus, that's probably where he looked the fittest. That's pretty shallow, but Captain Tightpants was hot, especially in Serenity!

I caught a few movies here and there, most notably Waitress and Dr Horrible, and he was still adorable.

I didn't start watching Castle until it had been on the air about 3 or 4 seasons because I like to wait until there's a buildup of episodes so I can marathon them. A fellow Fillion follower told me to stop waiting and just watch and I'm glad I did. Castle seems like it's the closest to how I imagine he is in real life: playful, funny, charismatic, intelligent but with that inner 12 year old nerd at the forefront.

I do see what you mean about him not being very attractive. He's aged considerably between Firefly/Serenity and now, but there's still something about him that is indefinable. Personally, I think he needs a new haircut. I've seen his latest roles on Modern Family and Santa Clarita Diet and, again I know it's shallow, but his hair makes him look much older than he really is.
