Avengers: Infinity War

Just saw this. I don't know how reliable it is http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/avengers-infinity-war-cast-full-guardians-of-the-galaxy-captain-marvel-iron-man-captain-america-a7488731.html

"The movie came to life every time you were on the screen." Stan Lee to Chris Evans.

That is one packed list. Yikes! So each character will get about 8 min of screen time. 

I am so curious about this film. I just can't imagine how it will all go down.

I am already preparing myself that Chris will have very little screen time. Just too many players on the field.

I know! What can you do? 

It's time Caplad thought of doing a one man show. I'd help him write it for a can of beer and a pepperoni pizza.

I don't know how I feel about this cast list though. I wasn't keen on the long list of participants with the last film. I thought they might be going to quantity rather than quality. It worked though didn't it? Didn't it?? But if they're bringing in everybody whose friend once read a comic about a hero, are they going for whizz-bang-splat over substance? Guess Marvel by and large know what they're doing.

That's not an official cast list, it reads like something cobbled together by the Casting Agency since it's completely out of order and has all those weird award designations after the names.

They're also filming 2 movies simultaneously so some characters are in one film but not the other. Also, not every character is created equal in terms of story-line and screen time. The Russos have shown during their work on large ensemble TV shows and Civil War they can juggle a lot of characters. There were at least 23 significant speaking roles in CW from 2 minutes of screen time on up.

Steve
Tony
Bucky
T'Challa
Nat
Falcon
Wanda
Vision
Rhodey
Clint
Scott
Peter
Zemo
Cross Bones
Hydra Dr.
Ross
S.G. Ross
T'Chaka
Sharon
Howard Stark
Maria Stark
Miriam Sharpe
Aunt May

I'm not that worried about Chris' time. 1. He plays Captain America & 2. The Russo's have already said they'll be delving more into Steve/Tony, Steve/Nat and Steve/Bucky relationships. 3. Disney/Marvel didn't extend contracts and play $$$ for their core Avengers actors to make both movies to give them cameo level screen time.

I am going to rain on my own Christmas cheer for just one moment. Then I swear I will be done and in 2017 I will be a continual ray of sunshine.

See I worry about the Russo's these days. RDJ said he wanted a more significant part in CW which they granted because he is pretty much God. (Yes, I am childish and do harbor resentment), so then the story they were going to tell which had more Bucky and Steve was cut short to accommodate deity.

They may say we will get more of Steve/Tony, Steve/Nat and Steve/Bucky but I was disappointed with CW. I am sad to admit it. I expected a Cap film and I got a Cap/Tony film.

I am not saying RDJ's role did not prop up the film and have help it reach new heights in $$$ but..................

Depending on what major player of the day demands what percentage they get will determine storyline. Jaded a bit? Yup!

The Russos and M&M said while they had tossed around other ideas for story none of them clicked until they decided on CW. Once the Russos decided they wanted to do Civil War there was no way Tony Stark was going to have a small or even modest role. The nature of the story is Steve v Tony. When the Russos told Feige this is what they wanted Feige told them they'd have to get RDJ or it wouldn't happen. RDJ did not ask to be in CW. He was wooed and pursued according to the Russos and then they had to hammer out another contract.

The only rumor that came out about it being initially small role was tied to Ike Permutter who did not want to pay RDJ for anything more than a small role. (Failing that he wanted Ruffalo/Bruce to take the Tony role which was nuts.) That would not have worked for the story the Russos wanted to tell or Feige wanted to tell and it's part of the reason Feige finally went over Ike's head and is now the head of Marvel's film division. (that was going to happen sooner or later though)

From the expanded Black Panther role (which was initially a cameo who unlike Tony doesn't primarily interact with or react to Steve's actions), to added Spider-Man and Ant Man, to the Vision/Wanda subplot I think it's evident they wanted a larger canvas of characters.

For me there was more than enough Bucky, too much in places but they could have easily cut a couple of his flashbacks and replaced it with more Steve/Bucky personal interaction if that's what they wanted. The scenes could have been filmed for all we know and not played well so were cut. (like the cut & re-shot scenes between Steve & Sharon) I wouldn't be surprised because frankly I don't think Stan did well with the emotional scenes he had in CW.

I do think in trying to balance the film so people didn't easily take sides that they slightly undercut Steve's more personal and emotional scenes. There should have been more of emphasis on Peggy's funeral and how that loss impacted him. They shouldn't have cut down his after scenes with Nat and Sam and instead cut any romantic angle to the Sharon subplot (which is just misguided). I'm still ticked that they gave his most famous speech to Peggy for Sharon to give.

Could Civil War have been filmed as an Avengers movie instead, in terms of story - easily. But in terms of contracts, scheduling and what they wanted to do with Thanos and Infinity Wars, it would have been almost impossible.

I still want another solo Chris as Cap film though even TWS had Nat as an almost co-star with a big role for Fury while introducing Sam. With the expanded cast of characters it looks like there will be more and more crossovers. Hulk is with Thor in Ragnorok and its now Antman & The Wasp for their sequels.

He had any emotional scene??? Please, name one. As i recall there was endless action for him and a scene where they tried to convince the audience that he was heterosexual. And they had the nerve to call this a love story.

We already knew Bucky liked girls from TFA, so much he left with two the night before he went back to war and later whined that Peggy wasn't attentive to his hitting on her and that he was now invisible like poor Steve used to be.

How about there was potential for him to show affecting emotion, something aside from rage and he didn't. When Steve shows up at his apt. When he's in the vice. In the airplane with Steve when he talks about how he now remembers. In the bunker in the end when he watches the tape of his murdering Howard and Maria. Steve is emotional, Tony is very emotional, Bucky is once again kind of dead eyed and a bit mopey and surly and only peps up when he's trying to rip out Tony's reactor.

I think Stan either way underplays or overplays with the cringey gurning and howling (his torture scenes are particularly terrible) - and that last scene is a perfect example of both. His best stuff in the series was when he was the charming raffish boy next door and then the reluctant Sergeant going back to war for Steve - so it confounds me he only became popular playing the Blank Killing machine with Emo eruptions. The result is that in the end I only care about Bucky because Steve cares about Bucky, because Chris makes Steve's caring palpable.
