My absolute favorite aspect of the show is...

The main character, a female police officer, is not someone who could moonlight as a model and actually dresses (make up included) like a female police officer would. There are so many shows, too many to count, that put extremely attractive women in roles that so few extremley attractive woman strive to be in real life. You know that during the casting, they must have woman who fit the role so much better, but select a more attractive one, because they are easier on the eyes. And I'm not saying there are not attractive women in some of these professions, but when they are, they don't look like that just walked into work from the stylist chair every single day. I'm also not saying Mireille Enos is not attractive, when she is done up, she looks great, but in her role, she actually looks like a cop. Kudos to the casting for The killing.

Exactly! That's what's so compelling about this show: you can imagine these people as real life people!

I agree, I like her casting and like her realistic look in The Killing as well. I don't mind very pretty girls cast as weary cops but if they're running in stiletto heels and have their long rebonded hair untied, it really destroys the realism of the film (CSI Miami).
