Any 20 yr old can get there ideas out there with daddy's money

Don't see the fuss over this guy. His dad gave him money to start off. Anyone could do that if they had a pushover dad.

But not many of them can churn out critically acclaimed and award winning works. That takes talent.

Their*. And the first shoot of the film was funded by his savings and the second by the Canadian government

You must be very young and naive to genuinely believe that statement. No one is that talented meaning there are loads of talented people, young and old, competing in the entertainment. No one really stands out, and is given their breaks due to connections. Xavier Dolan didn't even have to work to make connections as he was born into them, and his dad did all the work for him. There is really nothing special about Dolan. He did not grind for years and work his way to the top like everyone else who couldn't have their dad pay for their dreams.

Did his dad pay off every single person who has ever given his son a positive review or an award? No. As somebody else has already pointed out, Dolan did not use his father's money to fund his projects -- he got the job done by other means. As for having connections, you're acting like this is something to be ashamed of. Connections are a blessing in any line of work, but it doesn't mean you don't have to live up to expectation in order to survive among the throngs of individuals vying for the exact same position that you have.

You missed my point. You'd have to be absolutely insane to truly believe that any talented 19 year old would be able to get funding for a film. Any talented kid that came from a modest background whose family didn't have connections in the industry would be laughed out of the room if he came looking for funding--that's if he even got in the room in the first place. For your average person, no matter how talented they are, it takes years of blood, sweat, tears, and grinding to get money and clout in the industry. There is no doubt that Xavier's father pulled all the strings for him. There's a difference between making connections, and actual nepotism. Xavier freeloads off of nepotism.

Money matters not if the person doesn't have talent. Money can't buy talent.

Xavier Dolan is a very talented director. The quality of Mommy is outstanding; it's nothing short of a masterpiece.

The practice of gluing the performances of two different actors together needs to come to an end.

It's not exactly nepotism when the exact same people are funding the likes of those god-awful films that are made for television only. Most of what is shot in Canada, by Canadians -- and even foreign co-productions shot on location in Canada -- will be funded in part by the Canadian government if they cannot fund themselves. This is why you see their symbol appear in the credits of so many things.

In fact, it's become something of a hot topic among Canadian tax payers who think too much money is being spent on the film and television industry instead of being put to use elsewhere.

So if you really think a young person can't get a film funded in Canada, you'd be wrong. There are countless numbers of both public and private funding programmes available to emerging talents. I myself have known a few who have gotten what they needed from the Hot Docs programme.

Did his father actually give him money to start with? From what I have read he financed his debut with the money he made from his career as a child actor. And if that is true, then your premise is a lie.

He had connections, and that was obviously a help, but that doesn't in any way take away his talent. Just be glad mild nepotism lead to a potential master director instead of the usual bland failure.
