Anybody else here appreciate William Daniels?

He was the star of the musical 1776, had a great and memorable line in The Graduate, unforgettable to fans of St Elsewhere. Let's hear some hoorahs for Billy D !

reply

He's not dead yet so expect no praise.

reply

He's great, Michael.

reply

He is still the greatest talking car ever!

reply

I certainly am aware of this as a sort of career highlight, but hesitated to bring it up.
Recently saw about three minutes of Knight Rider, and my goodness ...
Maybe I saw the absolute worst part ever? And before that I recall trying to drop in on an ep' with the same type of reaction.
Like, if it's always like this, then it's really bad.

reply

I grew up watching Knight Rider, and have super fond memories of it, but mostly of K.I.T.T. Forget Hasselhoff, Daniels made the show.

reply

Great to hear this. I actually was happy that Daniels received the recognition by getting the part in what seemed, at best, a fun and popular bit of mainstream fluff. Easy money for a deserving person, right?

reply

Let's hear it for Mister Feeney. Also love an early appearance by him on Kolchak the Night Stalker.

reply

Never have seen this show (Boy Meets World). I know catching Daniels alone would give me a grin.

reply

I can't believe I've never posted anything about this guy before. He's so talented and one of my favorites.

He was very funny as the frustrated police lieutenant on The Night Stalker. He ordered Kolchak to get on a plane and get OUT of town if he didn't stop saying that there was a vampire loose in L.A. (there was!)

He was my favorite character, Dr Mark Craig, on St. Elsewhere.

reply

He appears on the 1970s TV series "Family" in an episode called "Counterpoint," where he plays his usual rude, snotty character. He does it so well! I'm a big fan.

reply

I just watched that episode recently on Tubi! He was a lot of fun to watch as Kate's nemesis in that episode. I loved Daniels mostly from St. Elsewhere and wish some streaming channel woukd resurrect that great show.

reply

I just finished watching the entire series (St. Elsewhere) on Hulu. I used to watch that show as a kid back in the 80s. I love it!!

reply

Wow. I didnt know Hulu was playing that. Thanks for the heads up. I might have to broaden my streaming subscriptions!

reply

I think you can get a free trial for a month.

reply

Thanks!

reply

He's also wonderful in Two for the Road.

reply

He's on an episode of the series "Family" where he plays the quintessential rude, condescending jerk character he plays so well. I highly recommend it.

reply

Awesome. I'm guessing he was a very pleasant person in reality, but he could play the "arch" character so easily, with the moneyed and condescendingly articulate Eastern Seaboard accent.

God ... I try so hard to be just like him. And right here on MC ! hahaha ! (sarcasm alert)

reply

He's fine. Shows up, knows his lines, stands in the right place. "1776" is unwatchably bad, but I don't hold it against him. Dude had to make a living.

reply

1776 was in keeping with what was popular on stage at the time. I wish he would talk more about his time on St Elsewhere and playing Dr Craig. I got a feeling that he does not due to the character being quite different from Daniels as a person.
