Seriously, I hadn't seen him for a while, but he looks past 50 at this point. Has he done anything to himself or is he just aging unfavorably?

It's a possibility that it is just makeup making him look older than he actually is.
shareI came here to find out the same thing. Saw him on a preview for Last Ship. He's still good looking, but not panty-dropping hot like he used to be. I don't think its age either but I almost didn't recognize him. Curious as to what happened to all that hotness.

shareI think he's still handsome. His hair greyed early, and he's put on some muscle mass for his role as Tom Chandler.
Personally, I think he looks better w/out facial hair. His IMDb profile photo is not his best look.
He had a prescription pill addiction when he was on Grey's and exited that show because of it, and he aged really horridly on the show. That's probably it.
