We've had a black president. I think we're ready for a black 007...

Really though, there's nothing about the character of James Bond that requires him to be white. Bond just needs to be a womanizer, British and a little overconfident.

My money's on the next 007 after Daniel Craig being black. If so, who do you think it would be? Maybe Idris Elba?

Except for the fact that he is white, sure.

But Bond is based on a literary character.....who is white.....I mean, you wouldn't make Shaft or Alex Cross white would you?

reply

Well it would have to be another reboot which we don't need for a long time. From 62-02 that's supposed to be the same Bond. Also once you go black... You'd pretty much have to only cast black actors then. Jumping back and forth between races would be too distracting in the series.

Lazenby, Dalton & Craig ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES!

Idris Elba is a good actor and I'm a fan but i can't see them choosing a Black Bond because the character of James Bond is expected to be white and British by most people. It's a risk that might payoff or not but the Bond franchise has been doing great lately and they have no reason to change the formula

WE'VE had a black president? James Bond is British brah...

I actually wouldn't mind a black Bond personally; I think it would be interesting, so long as the character stays more or less the same. It should be quality of performance first, over everything else. It's not like the other actors look much like each other, and he gets slightly reinvented every time the casting changes anyway...

I'm not saying ethnicity is always interchangeable in a role, but since most of these movies are only loosely inspired by the Ian Fleming books I honestly think you could get away with it.

Still, I doubt they will. And I also don't know how common my point of view is...

reply

I don't think it will happen. The character is reinvented to some extent with each actor but they keep the principles of the character in the way Fleming described him, i.e. born in Scotland to a Scottish father who worked for a defence contractor and a Swiss mother, orphaned and educated at Eton and Fettes, achieved the rank of Commander in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve and joined SIS by using his father's contacts. I really don't think a black actor could fit into a backstory like that.

Frackin tired of this shi te, bond is a character, who has a story and a background, to change it for the sake of appealing to others is BS, its like making jesus a black jew. Next you dumb sacks will be making a black frodo. GTFO

reply

Idris would be a hell of a lot more convincing as Alex Cross than Tyler "Madea" Perry!!!

...As a black man myself, I prefer the character of James Bond white.
