He had the perfect track record...
He had GoT, Oblivion and Mama, all of which looked great for his résumé. Then he did...a terrible chick flick? What the hell was he thinking?? I don't even want to write the name of it here because I don't want it to be in the same post as his other work I named.
The guy is leading man material, he shouldn't be doing dumb romantic comedies like that. I cringed when I saw the poster right between Oblivion and Thrones on his page...
You don't know how the buisness work.
First of all he hardly had a perfect track record.
He did movies previous to GoT you know..
movies like .. Wimbledon, and Firewall..

The Director of the 'movie' was Nick Cassavetes..
And he has a pretty good track record in his field.. e.g. 'The Notebook'
I'm pretty sure most actors would wanna attempt to gain the notice Ryan Gosling got from that film.
He also made Alpha dog... great film.
So Coster-Waldau made a bet.. as simple as that.
Also he was at best able to get 'minor supporting'.. Oblivion have him featured a total of what? 3-4 minutes?
In this movie he was the male lead, maybe people seeing his face in that film, even got him the next job.. the big budget Gerard Butler flick.

The chick flick sucked but he was good.... He was the only thing that worked in it - like a ight in the dark
And in the end, a high profiled flick that sucks is a wise move if you perform well and above the rest. He was noticed in this and showed a different range... a bad movie perhaps, but not a bad move.
