I can't believe he's going to lose the Bond role to Idris Elba!?

I can't believe he's going to lose out to Idris Elba as the next Bond. I'm guessing it's for 2 reasons, mainly:

1) The producers don't want a Bond who is also playing Superman at the same time.

2) ALso...they figure, the African American audience really CAN carry a movie over the $500 Million mark. The producers saw what happened with Black Panther...and figured the same could happen with the next Bond films. With Black Panther, the filmmakers knew the general comic book movie fans would turn out, regardless. But by having a mainly black cast, it would ALSO bring out the African American audience, big time.....opening up an entirely untapped audience segment. And it worked. The Bond producers took notice.

reply

Or, OR, it's because Elba is also a great choice and a great actor and will most likely be a great Bond if he is indeed cast. Newsflash, Bond movies make money already. Skyfall made over a billion. Spectre made almost 900 million. You think they would cast a guy only because some other movie with a black cast made money? Idiotic.

People like you are the worst. Who whine and cry about a casting without having even seen a glimpse of how the actor does. You're just like the people who whined about Heath Ledger being cast as the Joker. Guess what? Everyone ended up loving him. Or the people who whined about Affleck being cast as Batman. Cavill would be a good Bond. Elba would be a good Bond. So quit your crying and wait until the damn trailer comes out in like 4 years at least.

reply

Wow, angry much? I'm saying....the producers would cast someone based on strategies that would make money. One of those strategies would be current trends, movements, and demographic shifts. Idris would be quite good in the role. But so would quite a few other actors. And after having seen Cavil in MI and The Man from U.N.C.L.E., I think he'd be the best choice. But I think Idris will get the nod, for reasons mentioned. Even the producers themselves have indicated "It's time"....for diversity in the Bond role. If they go with Idris, I'm sure he'd do quite well.

reply

Or, OR because SJW's whined about it so much they got their way?

I'm not trashing Elba he's an awesome actor but what's next? Wesley Snipes as Batman?

reply

You know what's funny? Is he HASN'T been cast as Bond. He's actually said he isn't going to be the one next one. The rumor now is it's going to be Richard Madden from Game of Thrones.

Sooo how did they get their way exactly? For them to get their way, wouldnt he have to, uhhh, ya know, PLAY James Bond? But he isn't, so now you can stop your whining since it was never even happening other than a rumor and some fans wanting it.

But could you even give one reason why he shouldn't have been Bond? You act like people wanted Tyler fucking Perry or Chris Rock to play Bond. Elba is a great actor, good looking, in good shape, British, has done action roles before. So tell me sport, why would you cry if he was cast? The only negative is he's too old, but you don't mention that, so you don't seem to care about his age.

reply

I'm not crying if he's cast but Ian Fleming described him:

Facially, Bond resembles the composer, singer and actor Hoagy Carmichael. In Casino Royale Vesper Lynd remarks, "Bond reminds me rather of Hoagy Carmichael, but there is something cold and ruthless." Likewise, in Moonraker, Special Branch Officer Gala Brand thinks that Bond is "certainly good-looking ... Rather like Hoagy Carmichael in a way. That black hair falling down over the right eyebrow. Much the same bones. But there was something a bit cruel in the mouth, and the eyes were cold." Others, such as journalist Ben Macintyre, identify aspects of Fleming's own looks in his description of Bond. General references in the novels describe Bond as having "dark, rather cruel good looks".

In the novels (notably From Russia, with Love), Bond's physical description has generally been consistent: slim build; a three-inch long, thin vertical scar on his right cheek; blue-grey eyes; a "cruel" mouth; short, black hair, a comma of which falls on his forehead. Physically he is described as 183 centimetres (6 feet) in height and 76 kilograms (168 lb) in weight.

reply

But so what? Does his fucking skin color seriously matter that much? I'd rather have Richard Madden since he's younger but honestly, who gives a fuck as long as the actor is good? You are crying and are making an issue out of nothing. He would have been a good Bond if he was cast. But he wasnt, so you can calm your tits.

Also, Daniel Craig doesn't fit that description of Bond. 5'10, light brown hair, no scar, much more buff build. Did you hate his casting? Actually, lots of people did hate it and whine about it, and then once they saw him in the role, he became one of the best Bonds ever. Interesting.

reply

Why so angry, dickattack? Seriously...why so angry? You come across like an a-hole. Bond was conceived and written as a white man. But there seems to be an agenda in the last few years....to retrofit minority actors and women into the roles that were at one point written as white males. It's actually rather patronizing to women and minorities. It's like....charity. Rather than say: "Superman has been a white male for too long. It's time to make him a Pakistani woman." Instead, why not say...let's start making more roles that happen to feature....Pakistani women?? Rather than try to "right a wrong" by pandering and making Bond a black man, why not just create a NEW character which features Edris? Kinda like how a secret agent role was created for Tom Cruise. Create a franchise for Edris, and he'd no doubt be great in it. Why re-write a character's history just to pander and feel righteous? It's condescending. It would be like making Lora Croft a Bangladeshi male. It's not necessary.

You feel all righteous and indignant in your posturing and protesting....but it's just naivete and misguidged, indulgent self-righteousness. And you will outgrow it. But in the meantime, you're just a kid with limited sophistication and self-indulgent anger.

Yes, Edris would be great in a secret agent role. But making Bond a black guy would be like casting Ryan Gosling as Black Panther. You simple douchebag.

reply

You do realize Zach is right when he says Elba isn't going to be the next Bond, right? So your whole thread is worthless now because he was never even offered the role. He was just a popular choice. That's it. You come off as extremely whiny in this post and your OP. Because you're whining about something that will never happen. It's called patience, son. Not jumping the gun, and overreacting to a rumor. One day you'll learn that. Until now, you're just a kid with no self control, freaking out over nothing and making something small into a big deal. You'll outgrow that one day.

And your comparison to casting Ryan Gosling as Black Panther is both wrong and ignorant lol. Black Panther is from an all black country. It would make no sense for a white person to play him. James Bond was written as a white man, but it's not necessary to make sense for the story. Bond's race has no affect on his character or story. A better attempt for you would be to say, "Idris Elba playing Bond would be like Ryan Gosling playing Falcon". See why that makes more sense? Because Falcon has always been written as a black man, but he doesn't NEED to be a black man. His race doesn't matter for his story. Just like James Bond. Cast a white guy as Black Panther and it makes no sense. Cast a white guy as Falcon, nothing in those movies change.

Understand? Next time be better with your criticisms. Try to make them accurate and make sense. Because your whole post was a lot of ranting and very arrogant. And again, pointless, because Elba won't be playing Bond.

reply

It's not about whether or not the Elba/Bond thing actually happens, moron. It's about the premise. The trend. The principal. But nice try. You worked up quite a sweat and got...nowhere. Pussy.

reply

Ahhh but in your OP, you said Cavill was GOING to lose the role to Elba. You weren't talking about principle then, princess. You stupidly believed an unconfirmed rumor and now you're desperately backtracking :).

Next time don't get your panties in such a twist, little girl. And its very funny you say the other poster is an a-hole and asked why he's so angry...and then proceed to give such an angry, whiny, tantrum yourself :).

You're funny princess.

reply

At this point, the casting for the next Bond is still rumor and speculation. I think it's better to be cautious and wait until the studio actually makes an announcement before critiquing a choice that is still unknown.

reply

MCM...I think speculating, and offering opinions on the latest rumors, trends and industry insights for our favorite films and franchises is certainly within the norm on movie industry message boards. We don't need to wait for things to actually happen first, before offering opinions on various actors who may get the role...and how we think that would play out. Speculation about who will be the next Bond has been a movie industry tradition for 5 decades now.

reply

Good point. I think Idris Elba would be a very good actor for the role. Bond's backstory may need some minor adjustments, but that's okay.

reply

Except for the fact that Daniel Craig is returning to play Bond.

reply

Indefinitely? For the next 15 years?

Or....for one last movie?

reply

I think the currently available information points to one movie for sure.

reply

One more movie, then a few years to develop and do pre-production on the next one... and by that time, Elba will be fifty. Way too old to start playing Bond.

I just hope they don't hire Cavill, he's a poor superman and was quite lifeless in the Bond-lite "Man From U.N.C.L.E.".

reply

Totally disagree. His role in MfU was excellent and proved to me that he could easily play Bond. I loved MfU. It is a shame that it did so poorly in the box office. I would have loved a sequel.
His Superman was fine. It was the writing/directing that made such a mess of the films he was in. At least MoS had good action.

Idris would have been a decent Bond ... 10 years ago. Barring both of these actors, they should go with an unknown Connery/Moore hybrid.

reply

Agree that Elba is too old to play Bond, or will be by the time the Bond film after this one is made. I like Elba, I like the idea, but it ain't happening!

As for Cavill, I also blame the writers and directors for his failure as Superman much more than Cavill himself. The absolute best actors can improve bad material and I think we can all agree that, well, Cavill isn't at that level, or wasn't when he made the awful DC films.

But as for "The Man from UNCLE", I blame Cavill himself for his failure. I saw it, and throughout the film, I kept thinking "Gosh, that scene would have been really fun if it had been played by an actor with charm and a sense of humor, or one who could do an American accent without physical strain!". Because yeah, his American accent was terrible and he put so much visible effort into it that he didn't have any left over to put into being charming and funny. And face it, that property is NOTHING without a leading man who's charming and funny!

reply

Wasn't Daniel Craig supposed to be portraying Bond at the very beginning of his "double-oh" assignment? If so, then I think Craig was already too old in Casino Royale!

reply

One doesn't get to be an 00 agent right out of college, I think the that film was right to show him as a man who'd been proving himself on field assignments for a while.

reply

Put this rumor to rest once and for all. Last week Idris Elba did an interview and said he is NOT Going to play James Bond.

Source?

Here you go. Sorry about that:

There are other sources. This happens to be the one I first read it on.

reply

Idris Elba keeps saying he's not going to play Bond, and I keep seeing that is! I WOULD LOVE IT IF HE DID!

reply

See just above

reply

I saw that, yes. I was just saying I keep seeing it practically announced tht he will be, even though he says he won't. And that I would love it if he did.

reply

I think Idris Elba would be very good in that kind of role....but Bond was written with a very specific description. It would be odd to see a Chinese Bond.....or a redheaded Bond.....or a little person Bond.....or a Pakistani Bond.....etc, etc.

Not saying it's impossible. And, I'm not saying Elba wouldn't be great. But it would be like redefining Superman. He has always been a very, very specific description. It would be odd to see an Iranian Superman, for example.

What would be better would be....develop a new franchise for Elba, similar to Bond....kinda like the Mission Impossible franchise for Cruise. Don't try and retrofit him into the Bond cannon....simply because "It's Time".....to replace any white male role with a female or minority.

reply

I read a few ond books when I was a kid and the only Bond that physically fit the description for me was Timothy Dalton.

reply

In my top three Bonds. Definitely underrated.

reply

I'd say he's my top Bond because it felt like Bond walked right off the pages and onto celluloid. He nailed it.

reply

Who says the next James Bond has to be male? Come on, people! What year are we living in?

reply

If he's not Bond then I hope he still gets a role in a Bond film like as a fellow Agent or something. He'd be great for the series in general imo.

reply

Nothing wrong with spinning him off like they tried to do with Jinx.

reply

Well, Daniel Craig is still Bond. So the rumors weren't accurate.
