i didn't care for him as superman. he really didn't do it for me. brandon rauth did a better job as a superman in my opinion and he looked closest to the way christopher reeve was as superman. henry cavill just doesn't. i mean, he did ok, i just didn't like him playing the part as much.

shareI think people (and I'm guilty of this) get hung up on how beautiful Henry is and how perfect he looks as Superman. But, I agree; Cavill doesn't put forth any charisma into the part; and yes, I do think Brandon's characterization was a bit better (Brandon's Clark was clearly superior imo). But, Routh was screwed over by a clunky storyline and misguided direction on Singer's part.
shareRouth was a clone of Reeve., part of that is on Singer because Returns shouldn't have been an homage to the past. it should have been a different take on Superman. that's why fans didn't care for it, that and the lines ripped directly from both Superman 78 and Superman II.
all that being said, i like where Routh is as The Atom on Legends of Tomorrow.. Ray Palmer suits him.

SR wasn't an homage, it was a sequel to Donner films; this went over a lot of people's heads because they couldn't reconcile a sequel taking place 30 years after the previous film and pretend that it's a continuation of the story. Big mistake on Singer's part and unrealistic for him to expect audiences to do this. Even though origin stories can be a bore, it would've been wise for Singer to have done it instead of trying to make a sequel.

Hollywood only cares about money. Maybe is true that Henry Cavill is a bad actor but, for now, he sells way more than Brandon Routh.
The Rock is a mediocre actor and never is going to win an Oscar but he is the highest seller. Hollywood only cares about that.

I can understand you. I feel that way about Reeve. I don't like the him at all, as an actor and as Superman. He is not superman in my eyes. Even less after I read Superman vs Hollywood.. Take the time and read it, if you want to get to know the true Christopher Reeve.
